About the Project

This is just a place for me to document the various models I paint during 2024 that are not part of any particular event, such as Dungeonalia or Spring Clean Challenge.

I picked these up at Salute and finally got around to painting them this week. Fallout is quite a gritty setting so I’ve gone with a slightly grubbier painting style than I usually would.

The human skin was painted bugman’s glow. Lucy got a reikland fleshshade wash followed by a cadian fleshtone highlight while Maximus just got an agrax earthshade wash.

The Ghoul’s flesh was painted mournefang brown then washed reikland fleshshade.

The leathers and clothes were painted rhinox hidedryad bark or corvus black.

Lucy’s jump suite was painted macragge blue with averland sunset trim.

The metallics were painted leadbelcher.

The bases were painted doombull brown with waaagh! flesh for some fencing, xv-88 for the wood, skavenblight dingefor stone, ushabti bone for bone, and khorne red for the dead radroach.

Then everything (except Lucy and the Ghoul’s skin) got a was of agrax earthsade.

It’s been a long time since I painted any space marines and I felt like giving them a go again. In the past I always did Blood Angels, but this time around I wanted something a bit different.

These are 3D prints from DakkaDakka (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dakkadakkastore/legio-prima-victrix)

The blue armour is macragge blue with a wash of drakenhoff nightshade.

The white is celestra grey with a layer of ulthuan grey  on top.

The black is simply abaddon black.

The red is mephiston red with a wash of carroburg crimson.

The inner joints are painted corvus black.

The skin is bugman’s glow  with a reikland fleshshade wash and cadian fleshtone highlight.

The weapons and other silver areas are leadbelcher with a runefang steel highlight.

The bone areas are zandri dust with a layer of ushabti bone on top.

The parchment areas are steel legion drab with a layer of karak stone.

The gold is retributor armour with a highlight of liberator gold.

Lights and eye lenses are averland sunset.

The wolf head helmet is mechanicus standard grey.

At this point the models were ok but really didn’t stand out. Adding just a single highlight to every head really made them pop though. Calgar blue on blue helmets, evil sunz scarlet on the techmarine’s helmet, and fenrisian grey on the wolf head.

I use water transfers for the standards. I remembered too late you’re supposed to apply gloss varnish first, so on the larger transfers I’ve now got air bubbles where the transfers has come off. I use transfers so rarely these days.
