I’ve got a WAB (Warhammer Ancient Battles in the event no one remembers!) tournament coming up in September and needed to get an army on the table for the event. Rather than (typically!) forking out for new miniatures I made the decision to resurrect my Classical-Nanda/Mauryan army.

Bravo! A very clean and poppy painted unit. I’m surprised to see more Indians but its good to have them about and more options for armies. I feel there hasn’t been much interest until late to sculpt new lines en masse.

Tracking down the history for the most widely available lines was a pain. (The name of my armies leader is Lord Boobs.. a built in joke for the project)

Indeed horati0nosebl0wer. not many Classical/Mauryan Indian lines around, at least in terms of modern sculpts. The ones above are about the latest I know of.

and you’re right of course, tracking down info on the armies is nigh on impossible unless you have big bucks (or kept all your WRG stuff 🙂 )

@atheling My copy of WAB is in the shed alongside Armies of Antiquity, but didn’t the Ancient Indians get access to War Elephants, 4+ Horse heavy Chariots and their warriors had longbows and double-handed swords?  I recall the Indians being quite a popular choice on the competitive circuit 🙂  Talking of WAB, did you ever go to the WAB GT’s that were held at Britcon?

I never attended any of the WAB GT’s at Britcon but did attend the last one at WHW which was Medieval- that was enough to put me off GT’s for many a moon! Way, way too competitive

The sort of events that have taken place over the last few years, although competitive, haven’t seen the WAAC players one used to sometimes encounter and are much more laid back affairs.

The Classcial Indian Army of WAV V.2 is not the beast of an army that it was in WAB V.1. ellies are limited to a move of 6″, cannot march and are at 1/2 movement if they do not go directly forward so they’re far from the Deathstar that they used to me. The double handed swords are now Halberds (still useful but with no armout- hoe many are you realistically going to hit back with?). you can take Double Handed Swords with some units but the unit type is limited by lowlier options which would give you one offensive unit max in a 3000pt army- they’re not much use isolated on their own so are more or less pointless (pun not intended!) 🙂

EDIT: The Chariots are still pretty good but only have a 4+ save in place of the usual 3+ for heavy chariots. Still, they’re a good tool to have.
