@limburger – and it’s a model released after the Kickstarter. So KS backers have no justifiable reason to expect it for anything less than the same price as other buyers. If they’re getting annoyed at this with the discounted shipping code they get, imagine what they’ll be like if there’s any future, non-KS Hellboy material released? I’m completely with @avernos
I think it only stings because Hellboy itself hasn’t been delivered to backers yet, so it feels like it could have been part of …
but like @avernos said … we knew what we were getting when the kickstarter ended.
And while some kickstarters include extras during the time the pledge manager is open, most don’t. And you certainly only ever get a tiny discount or advance warning when new stuff ships.
And to be brutally honest. Kickstarter is not a store. It sucks that (some) creators and a lot of backers are treating it like it is one.
The fact that backers get a physical reward at all is kind of odd when you compare this to regular investment. I always consider the physical reward to be the bonus when the product ships.
So to me Mantic releasing new Hellboy related stuff shows that they are committed to making the most of the license.
And that is a good thing.
Also, the “but why are they making something else when they haven’t made the first thing yet?” is never a zero sum argument.
Just because your manufacturing chain is pumping out components and stuff is being packed doesn’t mean your sculptor was busy and that they somehow stopped making the initial stuff to make this. This idea that the initial offering would somehow come out sooner if they hadn’t done this is typically fallacious so nothing has really been lost.
Welcome to capitalism kids: buy it if you want it, don’t if you don’t.
exactly @kiranamida added to which this is being made in house by Mantic while they’ve partnered with Panda to fulfil the pledge. So it’s not like they’re being produced in the same place, packed in the same place or even shipped from the same place.
If, and it’s a big if, the Kickstarter had included the option for resin components that were coming from Mantic anyway I could see the reasoning behind it. But this KS was specifically not like that, a very limited scope KS without the additional frippery that could delay it’s production and shipping.
I am a huge Hellboy fan and the new Hellboy in Hell run is amazing.
