    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.ontabletop.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • What is more important to you in a miniatures wargame: fun and humour or highly balanced gameplay?

And now back to the show.

Pledge of the week: scrub some metal bugs and begin final assembly.

    Answer of the week:

Fun, definitely fun. Even with the most balanced games I get my ass handed to me so why even bother? Plus it’s always way more satisfying to see someone get really annoyed when “that one unit” just does not die/go away that I’ve fielded for no other reason then to have fun.

    Music, fresh from the fields:

Pledge:  Keep plugging away with the DoW minis.  I’m still working on the big archer unit.  I’m liking how it is looking but haven’t had much time at the painting desk for the past couple of weeks.  Meanwhile I’ll be dancing around in tiny circles trying to contain my excitement whilst waiting for my discount KoW minis to arrive.

Answer:  Fun!!  That’s why I do most things but particularly hobby.  That said I enjoy working on an army list and it helps if the system is well balanced as this gives you the impression that you have an even chance at getting your army in a good state/better than last time.  This is of course an illusion as I often get thrashed due to my very aggressive gameplay style – everything charges all the time 😀  That too is fun, regardless of the outcome.

How about some Nu Metal today for a change:

Pledge: Tear myself away from the Marvel Universe RPG campaign that I having so much fun writing long enough to get some paint on Phoenix for MCP.

As for the question… I’d like to quote Slartibartfast, “Far rather be happy than right”.

My 7TV casts are designed around which mini looks coolest.

My Dead Man’s Hand ‘Daughters of the West’ are chosen partly for the weapons they hold, but mostly because I like them.

Although I don’t play Warmachine/Hordes anymore, I bought Circle Orboros and Cryx armies because they look cool.

I bought a motorcycle and sidecar for Bolt Action Afrika Korps because I like the mini even though I think it has a life expectancy of one dice roll when it moves into range of an enemy.

So in summary… balanced gameplay is for tournaments and people that want to win.

I play with friends and want to have fun, even when the dice are determined to make sure that my favourite miniature dies in the first round of combat.

Pledge – Must try and crack on with my Paint Comp entry, something Noble. I have something in mind. Then back at the horde of Orks 🙂

What is more important to you in a miniatures wargame: fun and humour or highly balanced gameplay? Fun and humour win out every time. Hopefully, all games are ‘balanced’, but it’s the fun ones you want to play.

Pledge: work on Nurgle Manticore Lord for Old World.

Fun or Win at all Costs: FUN! Always. I never set out to win, that’s a happy coincidence. Hard core tourney gamers can be fun, but usually are not.
