About the Project

It's August 2020 and the end is in sight. Out of the 2200ish models I own I only currently have 63 left to paint, so why not share the final push with everyone and watch me accidentally buy and print faster than I paint instead of doing this

Models Finished in Collection: 3256 Models since start of project: 1065 out of 63 completed and still not done!

I’ve finished the 4 Phoenix Armour modular kits, and the Pinup Lantern Festival mini.  That’s 5 more minis finished.  The druid bust is possibly done?  I should probably go back and redo the flesh, but I probably won’t.  I’m trying something on another bust.  If it goes well I’ll revisit the druid.  If it doesn’t, I’ll likely give up on bust level painting, at least for now.  Pics to come later, once I’ve made a decision.

Since writing my list last time I’ve made some decisions and discoveries, and done some building.

  • The Screaming God armour kits are modular after all (+4 modular, -4 normal)
  • I had the Pinup Manhunterx2 on the list twice (-2 Luxury, -2 MTG)
  • I’ve already built 1 of my modular leather armour guys, leaving 3, not 4 (-1 modular)
  • There’s actually 5 guys on the White Lion sprue, not 4 (+1 Modular)
  • It turns out Pinup Upside Down Survivor and Pinup Mountain Dungeon Armour are two different sculpts, and not the same one with different names, despite looking almost identical (+1 Normal, +1 MTG)
  • I have built 5 Lion armour, 3 Leather armour, 2 Screaming Fur armour modular models (-10 modular, +10 normal)
  • I have built the remaining models flagged previously as “Normal”
  • I have also built Azure Fighter, Hospitalier, and Pinup Twilight Witch (-2 Modular, -1 Luxury, +3 normal)
  • I accidentally ended up with 2 copies of Pinups of Death 5 and I’m preparing to list my spare on eBay.  That’ll reduce my MTG by 11.

This should leave me 20 models built and awaiting basing then priming, and 2 WIP busts on my desk.  I’ve also started playing Kingdom Death again and I’m on Lantern Year 7 of the Dream Keeper.  I’m spending more time playing and less time painting, but that’s the goal.  Catch up, relax, and enjoy.

I’m done.  I’m back up to date for the first time in 8 months.  It’s taken over a week, but I’m there at last.  I’ve updated my 3 projects, the hobby pledges thread, my Facebook gallery, my complete KDM range spreadsheet (sortable by weapon, armour, gender etc) and the KDM discord galleries.  All done.

This did highlight that my running totals have gotten a little broken, so it’s time for an inventory check.  I’ve gone back to my master spreadsheet and checked every model gained since 2016 that’s not flagged as painted and compiled a list, and given them some sortable tags.

The system won't accept spreadsheet files so a JPG will have to do.The system won't accept spreadsheet files so a JPG will have to do.

I may have missed something that wasn’t on the sheet, or something that didn’t get updated there fully.  Here’s what the different categories mean:

Batch: Models I don’t care too much about and can be batch painted.  Typically units of repeating sculpts, or groups of uninspiring models with similar paint schemes.

Normal: A game piece, some thing that can be used as a game piece, or something equivalent.

Bitz Box: An incomplete model, or a model I have no use for or interest in, but might be repurposable as terrain, or a base decoration, or a kitbash further down the line.

Luxury: Something intended purely as a painters piece.  No game use and unlikely to ever have one.  Usually busts and painters scale minis.  Pinups that clearly would not make sense on the board.

Modular: This started off as just the KDM modular armour sprues but I’ve expanded the definition to include anything I’m delaying making a decision on before building or painting.  This includes pinups and duplicates I might want to chop hands off of and replace their weapons, and models whose armour is made from monster that haven’t been released yet and I want to paint the monster before deciding how to paint the armour made from them.

Terrain: Terrain kits and things I’m considering turning in to terrain

This list contains 138 items.  17 are Terrain and Bitz Box, and I don’t include those in my MTG total as they’re kinda an afterthought at this point.  No use for either unless my situation changes.  Some models have changed categories today.  That leaves 121 MTG and….

I currently have on my painting desk:

Pinup Lantern Festival (Skin basecoated only)
Phoenix Armour (4) (75% done)
Druid/Dryad Bust by H3ll Creator (Possibly finished, but might revisit in the future)

…with the Elf Archer Bust by Midost sat nearby primed.  I’ve also made some decisions on the KDM core set modular armour sprues, and the Normals on this list now give me a clear work plan for the near future.  Maybe I’ll do a few Normals, paint a Luxury, do a few Normals, paint a Luxury…  We will see.

Due to eBay bundles I’ve ended up with 2 copies of Pinups of Death 5 (11 models) so I should probably sell one of those and lower my totals.  If you want it, or some spare Spiderlings or spare Spidicules legs and you’re UK based let me know.

I backed Reichbusters when it first came out.  I enjoy a good campaign game and it looked fun.  I ordered the core box and Projekt X, but not Not Of This Earth.  The game has since changed hands, and they’ve released a 2nd edition addressing a lot of the problems.  I backed that Gamefound for the new cards and rules, and the final box.  It arrived recently, and I’ve painted everything except the extra Projekt X which has no use.  I’m filing him under “modular” as I hope to one day kitbash him up to use as something else in another game.  Current aim would be a Nurgle Knight for 40k, but I’m definitely open to suggestions.  I don’t even play 40k, and I think I’d need a chainsword or similar to make him match any sort of loadout.

This is 76 more models added and done, if you count each door and pillar separately, and I do.  Gotta boost them numbers!

Below, in order:

Vril Acolytes x4
Vril Cannon Team x2
Red Hawk Alt Sculpt
Hugo Handler
Dr Kopff
Die Ausgeburt
Vril Portal
Nazi Handlers x4
Sgt. Sally
Shrieker
Ubersoldat x2
Augenmutter
Augen x8
Die Kleinen x8
Doors x18
Large Doors x2
Pillars x20

The pillars act as corners to support 2 square boards at 2 different heights, allowing for a dual floored dungeon.  Their main purpose appears to be to represent guard towers, and trains.  This game encourages you to shoot nazis in the face both inside and on the roof of moving trains!

While typing this up, I just won an ebay action.  Less than £5 for a full 4 man sprue of KDM Spider Silk armour, complete with 6 extra spiderlings, and 4 legs for the big spider.  I don’t think I have a use for more spiderlings or legs, so if you’ve lost any parts let me know.  Otherwise, they’ll eventually be turned in to terrain, or base decorations, or parts for something else.

That’s 6 more Normal models and 4 more Modular to add to the totals.

I think that’s this project fully up to date.  Now to combine the 4 way pics of each model in to single images and update other posts and projects.  I think I’m yet to do that with the pics from my last update 6 months ago 🙁

The last of the KDM models I’ve done in this batch are the Inverted Survivors from the Pariah box.  I’ve put magnets in their bases and a sheet of metal at the top of my cabinet, allowing me to display them upside down, which is the right way up.  I don’t know if they are characters with names.  I can’t find any online.

104 MTG: Pariah's Inverted Survivors, and the Illuminated Survivors

I forgot these existed for a moment there!  The parasite Queen has 4 naked minions.  Not sure why yet.  Guess I’ll find out when I face her.

This might be the last update for today, but there’s definitely more to come.  I’ve had a big box arrive and get painted I’m yet to mention or add to my numbers.  For now, here’s the remaining models from the Indomitable Survivor bundle I picked up on Black Friday, along with a white box mini or two.

Below, in order:

Toxicimitar Badar
Dashing Reaper Paleun
Fated Dagger Domino
Guinevere
Roaring Harmoica Kale
Oblouk Shield Arco & Magic Portal Gateway
Poison Partisan Ritika
Tachyon Nodachi Rubi
Tyrant Slayer Scarlet

Hmmm. I’ve run out of normal models on my counter, but there’s definitely 4 more to go.  I should have been keeping on top of this.  I’ve lost track of what is and isn’t included yet.

I’m really not sure how accurate these numbers are anymore, or what’s even filed under what.  Once this project is back up to date I might do a stock take.

It’s been 6 months since I updated here.  Where has my project mojo gone?  Time to get back up to date and try and stay there.  Many updates incoming, I imagine.  First up, lets finish of the Black and Red armoured guys.  Here’s the 4 B&R survivors from the Red Witches box

This leads in to Survivors of Death 2, who also have a B&R armoured survivor.

Below, in order:

Dark Paladin
Crabman
Valkyrie
Priest

Before painting the Valkyrie, the Screaming God box arrived, adding 2 new monsters and 4 modular minis.  I painted the Screaming God before the Valkyrie so I could work out my colour scheme for that armour type.  I then also painted 2 pinups I have at the same time as Valkyrie, before moving on to the Parasite Queen, who comes in the same box.

My light box collapsed around this time and I picked up a new one with different light settings.  I’m still getting used to it and my pics are of variable quality.  Hopefully I’ll get this sorted soon.

Below, in order:

Screaming God
Parasite Queen
Pinup Screaming God Armour
Pinup Male Screaming God Armour

I’m fast running out of entries in the post, and I haven’t even finished sorting through my pics yet.  One more box.  Legendary Survivor Snow.  The same character at 4 ages of her life.

Eight more models done, and I remembered I picked up 4 more modular KDM armour models over Christmas, so the total went down by 8 and then up by 4.

Here we see the Red Witch Braal

Followed by the Red Witch Nico

And the final Red Witch, Seer.

They have 5 Initiates who also join them in the fight.

I’ve got the last 5 models on this style currently waiting for their bases to dry so I can prime them.  In the mean time, I’m going to sink my teeth in to a large build project.  This is a single model kit and seems to be the most amount of plastic I’ve ever had for one build.  This Zoid kit may contain 3 times the sprues of previous Gunpla kits I’ve built.

Question for the community: Is it still Gunpla if it’s not connected to the Gundam IP?  If not, what is it called?

Here we have two versions of The Pariah.  One is him hanging from the ceiling.  In the upcoming campaign The Inverted Mountain a lot of fights will happen this way.  I currently have 6 more upside down models to paint.  I’ve been thinking about how I want to present them in my cabinet and I came up with an idea involving magnets, shelf brackets from eBay, and a piece of sheet metal.  I got lucky, in that while I’m an office worker, I work at a company that regularly cuts in to ductwork and I was able to find a coworker kind enough to cut up a piece of scrap sheet metal to fit around the framework of my Detolf cabinet.

He has 3 standard issue 5mm hobby magnets in his base.  I had no idea how many magnets it would take to hold him and I didn’t want to risk him falling and breaking.  It turns out 3 is overkill.  1 might do the job, but if you’re doing this stick with 2, and then feed back for the next person.  I wouldn;t trust just one without further testing.  As for fitting the magnets, I expected to need to drill through the base and the insert to fit them, but they fit nicely in just the base without disturbing the insert.

That’s this project back up to date for now.  I’m currently painting the Red Witches.  Another couple of days home alone and they’ll hopefully be done.
