Aquilon Terminators Reinforce The Custodes Of Warhammer 40,000

The Adeptus/Legio Custodes of both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer: The Horus Heresy get some more reinforcements from Games Workshop after that Warhammer Preview last week. Even more elite killers are on the way in the form of the new Aquilon Terminators.

Amongst the ranks of the Adeptus Custodes, those that wear the Aquilon Terminator armour are considered the best of the best. These relics come armed with two different weapon loadouts. You can either go for the Lastrum Storm Bolters and Solarite Power Talons or the Adrathic Combi-Destructors and Solarite Power Gauntlets. How do you like your eggs in the morning?

These veterans can deal with enemies that are far beyond their number, as you'd expect from an Adeptus Custodes. Once again, the miniatures for the Adeptus Custodes are both the easiest for you to paint (spray them gold, add some drybrushing and a touch of red. Done) or you can really go to town on them and pick out all of the little details.

I think they look great but they feel very static. I know they are clanking around in heavy armour but I would have liked to see them striding purposefully forward rather than standing quite so stock still, as if they're showing themselves off on a parade ground.

In accordance with the shift in Warhammer 40,000, Games Workshop are also looking to make the Adeptus Custodes as elite as they should be. If you thought Space Marines were more powerful now, wait until you see these guardians of The Emperor and the rules they bring to the battlefield.

With that in mind, points costs and unit sizes are being adjusted to make them feel more lore-accurate on the tabletop. You'll find you won't need many Adeptus Custodes to start fighting your 2000-point battles.

This set comes with a Shield Captain, six Sentinel Guard, three Venatari and a Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnought. Thankfully, you don't use all of this in your games of Combat Patrol; otherwise it would wipe the floor with every other army in the game. You instead make choices as to which of the two you're going to bring and play that way.

Warhammer: The Horus Heresy fans will also get a new supplement which introduces the Legio Custodes into your games against terrible Chaos forces.

The Battle for the Signus Cluster: Assault on Kol comes with loads of lore for the Signus Cluster but also follows the Legio Custodes against the Daemonic (and new) forces of Slaanesh plus the Word Bearers, other Daemon forces and the corrupted 606th Cohort of the Solar Auxilia.
