Community Spotlight: Star Wars Diorama, Ork Tinkering & Tiny Pirates!

Star Wars Diorama by gorram

gorram kicks off the Community Spotlight this week, where she has been working on a great Star Wars diorama. This has been designed as a fun present for a good friend and features a Clone Wars clash between Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin and some damn clankers!

The miniatures used for this particular scene included Atomic Mass Games' Star Wars: Legion miniatures for Obi-Wan and Anakin. You also have Captain Rex in the middle there showing off some Clone support. They are up against more of the Legion Battle Droids who are about to get cut into ribbons!

The terrain then used to finish off the scene comes from the Mantic Games range.

The final look for the scene is great and I love that you've got the rather militaristic droids set against the colourful, alien backdrop that could easily be somewhere like Felucia. I think the action poses work out well too, with Anakin leaping up to bring his lightsaber down on an unsuspecting droid. It's a great moment captured in miniature.

gorram has mentioned that as the creator of the scene, it's easy to notice flaws but I think this looks great. Considering the timescale that was in place for getting this ready, I think it looks brilliant and I imagine gorram's friend really enjoyed it. It has made me excited about the idea of more Star Wars. Maybe I need to get back to Shatterpoint...

Warhammer 40,000 Orks by dugthefug1644

Next up, we're diving into some brilliant painting from the lord of speed painting, dugthefug1644. This Ork project makes sense considering that 11th Edition has just hit for Warhammer 40,000. As you might have guessed, dugthefug1644 has also then gone above and beyond.

Some really cool painting has gone into the standard Orks from Armageddon. I think dugthefug1644 has done a brilliant job on them, especially when it comes to their green skin, which is the main part of any Ork! I also like that some patterns have been painted on the trousers of the Orks so they don't just look like they're all wearing jeans!

dugthefug1644 also has some excellent, quirky miniatures within this collection which are distinctly Orky.

These fun markers, made using bits and bobs, have been designed so that dugthefug1644 can show when a vehicle has miniatures inside of it. It's a great identifier for both the opponent and dugthefug1644 when playing games. It also looks absolutely hilarious, so I love it even more.

Last but not least, we also have some classic dugthefug1644 work in that there are some great kitbashed vehicles and more in this project.

The vehicles look brilliant and completely Orky. They are ramshackle but also look like they could be exceptionally brutal should they actually smash into the enemy. This vehicle is just one of the miniatures from this project that features plenty of kitbashing. I would check out the link above for more.

15mm Pirates by warhammergrimace

Last but not least, we're checking out something smaller in the form of some 15mm Pirates from warhammergrimace. They have been painting up some fun miniatures for some fighting on the high seas and on shore when the rum is gone!

I don't know where these glorious little pirates are from and what game they're going to be used for, but I think that warhammergrimace has done a superb job on these. I like that they are really colourful and the character has been captured by their painting. I also think the bases are brilliant, focusing on a jungle that might play host to some buried treasure!

As well as the fun pirate miniatures in 15mm, warhammergrimace has also been working on a ship for these fellows to sail in! It is already getting closer and closer to being finished and comes with some cannons for blowing the enemy away.

It would be great to see where this little project goes and what comes next. We have the pirates but I would guess that it won't be long until we get the navy who are going to be going up against them? Maybe we'll even have more pirates?
