Warhost's Andy Hobday and Paul Hicks are gearing up for the Dwarves to make their way onto their website for folks to pick up and use in their Fantasy skirmish game and beyond. There's a lot to showcase, so let's dive deep (but not too deep, or greedily).

Dwarven Command Group - Warhost

Dwarven Command Group // Warhost

There will be two options for you to choose from when the range initially launches on the Warhost website. The first will be a complete 500 point Dwarven Patrol which could form the core of a new force. The second is a "one of everything," which includes everything you see here (plus a bit more).

This allows Warhost to get things up and running so that the entire line can be put into production as separate releases further down the line. Starting things off, we have the Command Group (above), led by a Guild Captain who is then flanked by a banner bearer and a musician so the warband can be kept in line.

Next up, we have the Houseguards, who come with two different weapon options.

Houseguard Shields & Hand Weapons - Warhost

Houseguard Shields and Hand Weapons // Warhost

Armed with either two-handed weapons or hand weapons and shields, these Houseguards are the defensive, stubborn line between your commander and the enemy. Well-armoured and given the finest weapons, they are noble retainers and should definitely be painted as such!

Another character option is also available in the form of the Earth Mage and their bodyguard, the Ironclad Mageguard.

Earth Mages draw power from the bedrock itself and are guarded in the process of doing so by their magically bound Mageguard, which have been crafted from stone and metal by the finest craftsmen of the Dwarven holds. A very cool idea and one that will look quite striking on the battlefield. I like the idea of giving the Mageguard an inner glow or painting runic symbols of power on some of the aspects of their arms and armour.

Making up the rank and file of your Dwarven host, you'll also have a number of Warriors to choose from.

Bound by contracts and oaths, these Warriors can be armed with hand weapons and shields or spears and shields. Spears and shields will be very handy for holding the narrow passageways beneath the mountain against deadly foes both monstrous and cunning.

Some ranged support also comes for the Dwarves in the form of their Archers.

Unarmoured Archers - Warhost

Unarmoured Archers // Warhost

You can get your hands on Lightly Armoured Archers or Unarmoured Archers, which could represent the guard of your home and perhaps the scouting forces that range ahead to see what the enemy is up to. Again, all of the miniatures are packed with character and have that really nice Tolkien-esque feel to them, which makes them immediately enticing for poor old me!

Not to be outdone by the other peoples of the Warhost world, the Dwarves can also call on Mounted Hunters.

Mounted Hunters with Spears and Bows // Warhost

Riding ponies that are as hardened as the Dwarves themselves, these Hunters patrol the mountain passes and trade roads. Strike your enemies from afar with a bow and then ride for help or engage with the enemy at a charge with spear in hand.

Last but not least, every faction in Warhost gets something big and in this case, it's the Earthbound Sentinel.

Earthbound Sentinel - Warhost

Earthbound Sentinel // Warhost

These towering sentinels of enchanted stone are awoken by the Dwarves to aid in the fighting and are a true representation of the Dwarves' connection to the stone and earth.

When it comes to the miniatures, most of the Dwarves are cast in white metal with shields and metal pin spears. The Earthbound Sentinel and the Hunters' ponies are cast in resin. You will also get all of the correct bases for your games of Warhost.

The pre-orders for the Dwarven range will be coming very soon, so make sure to check out the Warhost website for when they go live. Could these new Dwarves tempt you into playing Warhost?
