Forgotten Pigments Army Painter Announce Partnership With D&D
October 27, 2026 by brennon
At Essen SPIEL this year, The Army Painter announced a new partnership with Dungeons & Dragons called Forgotten Pigments. This will feature a brand new collection of paints, sets and accessories themed around Dungeons & Dragons and designed to aid the hobby side of roleplaying.
Forgotten Pigments - D&D + The Army Painter
The paint sets and accessories are going to be designed specifically around Dungeons & Dragons, its artwork, books, manuals, characters, creatures and worlds. These will be designed for players who want to paint their heroes, Dungeon Masters who want to paint their monsters and more. I quite like seeing what ends up being on the cards for this. I would imagine we'll see sets featuring classic archetypes like Fighters, Wizards and Clerics alongside those that feature notable characters from the background of D&D.
Alongside this, The Army Painter are going to be launching the D&D Paint Academy.
D&D Paint Academy // The Army Painter
The D&D Paint Academy is going to be designed to educate and guide those diving into painting their D&D miniatures. You'll be able to start from scratch and then delve into more advanced techniques as you explore the Paint Academy. The Army Painter also mentioned that they are partnering with Blackwater DnD to introduce miniature painting to live-play and core D&D audiences, which is nice. As you can see, there is a funky QR code above which will lead you to explore what's coming up for the Paint Academy.
Will you be interested to see what The Army Painter get up to with this D&D partnership? The Paint Academy is quite a surprise!

Leaving aside the fact that you do not need paint for RPGs (unless you want to make your character sheet really fancy) I really felt let down after the reveal of “something big at SPIEL”. Yet another (branded) paint set. If the products are worth their asking price will be to be seen once they are out and about. The painting academy could be a nice thing but again: proof is in the pudding. So far it’s just an announcement that left me going “meh”. I did subscribe to the paint academy newsletter so I’ll guess I will see what is what.
Agreed; it’s a meh, from me, too, dawg.
I get that armies can do with dedicated sets of colours, because they’ve got uniforms.
But fantasy creatures in a RPG ?
I should be allowed to paint my spider people purple if I want to.
Then again … D&D has been trying to define how fantasy should function since forever, because it makes it easy to sell stuff if you stop people from using their own imagination.
And dare I say it ?
D&D is the McDonalds of RPG’s.
It’s bland, inoffensive and pre-packaged with zero options on the menu.
