All the single ladies..part 1
These ladies have been sitting on my desk now for pretty much the whole year. Sometimes I was too busy to care but mostly I was just scared of all the skin. The skin was my primary reason to group them as I could get a lot of skin practice but it is also the thing I have the least confidence in. By comparison the naked Conan is kind of easy, he’s a bag of walnuts. But when large sections of a sculpt need smooth consistent blends of stuff like skin it’s a bit scary. We are so attune to looking at skin we will get when its wrong even if we don’t know how to voice it.
In the end the exercise was worth it. Some areas I’m happy , and some not so but I did learn a lot. Probably the most important is to not be precious about paint. If your paint starts getting tired on the pallet it starts getting rough on your piece so put down enough paint on a reasonably wet pallet to get through all your needs, Particularly if your blending on the pellet and coming up with unique colours.
Once you start working drying paint your smooth skin will be difficult to achieve
