Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Battleforces For 2026 Revealed
October 26, 2026 by brennon
Games Workshop have followed up their Battleforces for Warhammer 40,000 with some for the Mortal Realms and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. See what you think of their offerings for 2026, which could end up being a good way to start or supplement an army.
Stormcast Eternals Battleforce // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
We start with the Stormcast Eternals Battleforce, which comes with some seriously elite elements. They are led by Lord-Commander Bastian Carthalos, who stands alongside a heroic Lord-Celestant and a Lord-Relictor to bolster the fighting prowess of those they fight beside. They are then backed up by some heavy-hitting elite units. The Praetors are there to give some protection to your heroes and then the Annihilators offer both the hammer and the anvil on which you can smite your enemies.
The second of the Battleforces sticks with the Forces of Order and covers the Cities of Sigmar.

This set comes with the fearsome Lioness of the Parch in the form of Tahlia Vedra. She is then in charge of a veteran Freeguild Cavalier-Marshal who is backed up by the thundering hooves of the Freeguild Cavaliers. A heavy-hitting force that will be across the battlefield in no time, threatening enemy objectives.
Embracing Chaos, we also have the Maggotkin of Nurgle.

This shambling and bloated host of warriors is here to spread pestilence and disease. The set is led by the Harbinger of Decay alongside the Lord of Blights. They are then commanding Sloven Knights, Putrid Blightkings, Rotswords, Pox-Wretches and Mire Kelpies. A wonderful clutch of terrifying and evil illnesses that will get you even if their massive, rusted weapons don't.
Sticking with Chaos, we also have the Slaves to Darkness.
Slaves to Darkness Battleforce // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
This is another pretty solid set for someone looking to dive into or indeed begin playing Warhammer Age of Sigmar. It comes with the Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount who finds himself flanked by ambitious and brutal Chaos Chosen and the heralds of Archaon himself, the Varanguard. You also have some mainstays of the Slaves to Darkness with the Chaos Knights and the Chaos Warriors. A big, spikey, brutal boxed set.
The Grand Alliance of Death finds itself serviced by the mighty Nagash himself.
Nighthaunt Battleforce // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
The Supreme Lord of the Undead is leading the ghostly forms of Dreadblade Harrows, Dreadscythe Harridans, Bladegheist Revenants and Grimghast Reapers. Feels a little odd for the Lord of the Undead to be the lead for this set but I suppose they have to bulk out the roster. This might be a good pick for someone seeking to get Nagash and a few extra bits to finish off a Nighthaunt army.
Last but not least, we have the Orruk Warclans who are going for a thundering cavalry charge across the battlefield.

This set comes with the Tuskboss on Maw-Grunta, who can also be built as Maw-Grunta Gouger or Maw-Grunta with Hakkin' Krew alongside the Maw-Grunta Gouger, which can alternatively be built as the Tuskboss on Maw-Grunta or Maw-Grunta with Hakkin' Krew. I think you get it. You then have six fearsome Gore-Gruntas which are going to run down any hapless Cities of Sigmar soldier who decides that they'd better flee.
I think all of these are pretty good, with perhaps the exception of the Death set, but that is only because I'm not a fan of the range. Could you be tempted by one of these?

Pass. They aren’t blood angels bad but they aren’t great. I can see a lot of these in black friday ’27 sales
Nurgle is probably best of the bunch, maybe the nagash box
I think they do starkly highlight how much GW prices have risen to lately
My biggest gripe with all of the box sets is the lack of consistency in their points values, you can tell these have been put together with ZERO input from anyone in their games design departments.
The Chaos boxes are AGAIN the stars of the show and the only ones who look to have been designed WITHOUT a reliance on named characters to fill out the roster, I don’t understand why it’s so hard for GW to be consistent in their battleforces, they need to stop relying on named characters to fill out rosters, give us a generic hero (or two), 2-3 solid scoring units, 1-2 heavy hitters, and give us an army book job done.
As an example The Cities box could be :
Cavalier-Marshal
2 units of Cavaliers
2 units of reinforced Gallants
Army Book
That gives you a decent core force to built around. maybe chuck in a Forgepriest or one of the Wizards and call it a day.
