Militant Monks Plastic Kit Coming This Week For The Barons’ War
October 29, 2026 by brennon
Building on their plastic collection for the 28mm miniature wargame, The Barons' War, Wargames Atlantic are releasing their Militant Monks this Friday! Add some fearsome friars and bloodthirsty brothers to the mix for your games.
Militant Monks // Wargames Atlantic
The Militant Monks set comes with components for you to build twenty-four plastic monks that could be used for all sorts of reasons in your games. The immediate thought it to make use of them as monks who are about to have their monastery raided and they've grabbed whatever they can to try and defend themselves against the raiders.
Militant Monks - Miniatures // Wargames Atlantic
The set comes with a range of improvised weapons that they have pilfered from the cupboards but you'll also find lots of different bits which end up giving your monks a bit more of a militaristic edge. A lot of monks were actually retired soldiers and knights, so they could probably handle themselves if someone came knocking asking to pilfer their treasure room. This might make them excellent candidates for those looking to go on Crusade, perhaps with the Outremer range?
Militant Monks - Sprue // Wargames Atlantic
You could also make use of these monks in periods before the Medieval. Pillage is a game all about raiding and what's a better target for a Viking than a monastery on the coast? Drop some of the weapon choices from your monks and you'd find the perfect set of monks to be hounded out of their hidey-holes. Just make sure you've got some Anglo-Saxons on hand to fight back and protect those monks!
The set will be available for you to buy this Friday, ready for you to drop into your games of The Barons' War for scenario play and more.
What do you make of these maddening militant monks?

Ooooo. Insta-buy.
Wow! These made me think how far things have come in the last couple of decades. Around the start of this millennium manufacturers were only doing ‘big sellers’ in plastic – Space Marines, Viking Hirdmen, Napoleonic Old Guard, Roman Legionaries, WW2 German infantry, etc. Niche stuff like these monks was strictly the stuff of lead.
The metal ones that were done for Baron’s War were pretty good though, but options are always nice to have.
Especially when you can mix&match with other things in a range.
I think it’s only been the wargaming section that were only doing ‘big sellers’ in plastic.
Bandai most definitely was showcasing some pretty cost effective methods for their Gundam kits before the likes of Wargames Atlantic began.
It is however very cool to see that there are more kits available for seemingly niche ranges within our hobby.
They are great and I am going to buy a few boxes. The only disappointment is that there no torso in the frame that can be my Friar Tuck (ie a well feed belly)!
Wargames Atlantic will be releasing an ‘Outlaws’ box for Baron’s War soon as well and if it’s exactly like their digital set, there will be a Friar Tuck-looking figure for you. https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-outlaws-784310
that variety of body types is something more sets would benefit from, but it is a bit of a downside to mass produced sprues.
What about ‘The name of the Rose’ ?
that’s monks investigating monks …
