that’s a good video of the before-Contrast times
Um, no. It’s not my dear @grantinvanman That video is two, almost three years old. It dates 14 Jul 2023. Contrast paints have been around since 2019 and in 2022 GW’ullu reformulated the range
So no, it’s not a video from the before times 😉 But that matters not as there are too many ways to paint minis to have one “ultimate” way. There might be a best way to achieve a certain goal but not a universally valid best method. IMHO.
Now, more coffee please.
June 17, 2026 at 5:42 am #1977493Dearest @sundancer I had NO IDEA! Good catch.
There are indeed so many ways to paint – I have been painting since circa 1993 (?). Imagine all the changes I’ve seen!
June 17, 2026 at 5:54 am #1977494Just the times that G’wullu has changed their own paint brands alone in the last 33 years. And then counting all the paint ranges and maker that came and sometimes went again. Dips, washes, inks, metals and and and…. boggles the mind.

What’s the status of the Spring Clean Challenge? In progress and still kicking some things around. I’m looking to use some credit I have with a fellow at the FLGS that does 3D printing who sold off some of the figures I selected to remove from my Hoard of Shame. The Myminifactory summer sale is coming up and I have my eyes on things to round out the Shieldmaidens and the Empire of Boobs. I’ve also come to be irritated with painting horses and an elephant. I might switch to rakshasa to clear my brain.
On a note for self reflection as it pertains to our collecting habit
June 18, 2026 at 5:19 am #1977608I’m bit worried that I’ll be a day short before Gerry swoops in and shuts down the contest to be sure.
SO MUCH PRESSURE XD

@sundancer as you know deadlines help us to mange our effort but you can relax because the SCC doesn’t require that you finish something, just that you have a go at something. You’ve done that already. Anything that gets finished is a bonus.
@horati0nosebl0wer Interesting video. As someone with some understanding of psychology I find hoarding fascinating. She doesn’t go into why people have some extreme reactions to risk management and end up with homes full of stuff. That is where the best understanding of the specific problem and permanent solutions for changing behaviour are to be found.
She has some good experience to share and some of the issues are valid for us and our collections. They represent someone we want to be and a way we want to live. I’m sure we all recognise that on some level. The response is therefore to spend more time inhabiting that persona and less time worrying when we don’t.
June 18, 2026 at 6:49 pm #1977629Wasn’t it Douglas Adams who said : “I like deadlines … especially the sound they make as they go flying past” (or something) ?
Tomorrow is Armageddon day.
And no, it’s not because of that orange dude across the ocean pushing buttons and doing stupid things again, but then … you never know.Anyways … evil day star has been doing its thing. It’s too bloody hot.
Tune for the day:
June 18, 2026 at 6:51 pm #1977630June 19, 2026 at 12:47 am #1977659@limburger Yes, it is too damn hot. I’ve gotten a little used to this Celsius thing now that I’m sweltering. Instead of wanting to die at 104°F I can try and just say to myself its not so bad at 40°C. Working in it all day makes me appreciate my naked time indoors.
A heat effect I’ve noticed is frosting of canned primer when I started up on a barter paint job. Has anyone else gotten something similar?
Addendum: I got the first bunch on monster photos added. Hooray post button stuff and things!
June 19, 2026 at 6:56 am #1977680June 19, 2026 at 4:57 pm #1977768@pagan8th Is it not release day for the Armageddon starter box for 40k 11th Edition on Saturday? Perhaps they are allowed to collect pre-orders a day early? I’ve certainly seen a few being unboxed on my SM feeds.
June 19, 2026 at 6:10 pm #1977804For those folks who like a battle report I’ve posted the first outing for my Dogs of War here: https://www.ontabletop.com/project-entry/1977792/
June 19, 2026 at 6:28 pm #1977805@sundancer I think this explains everything with your tyranids and all out projects from simple ideas and humble beginning
June 19, 2026 at 7:28 pm #1977806*arrrgghhh* so delivery was planned for today, but somehow it was ‘too busy’ for them and the ff-ing delivery didn’t happen.
In theory this would have meant that I could be unboxing armageddon today already …@pagan8th the GW thing. altough with the heat we had today it might as well be the real thing 😀
Somehow GW managed to deliver stuff early to the local FLGS so they could (in theory) let me have it today.
With the unknown delivery (at the moment) I now have to spend tomorrow at home as I doubt I get much of a headsup when they do decide to do the delivery. The shop has done its best, so can’t blame them (well maybe I can … they did chose the ‘busy’ idiots).OTOH … there’s the Warlord box arriving (hopefully) on monday. I totally didn’t get the surprise K’47 box ?
