About the Project
I got carried away..... and this means the original core army would never, ever be finished if I keep expanding as I go along. So here is everything! I want to do a massive game somewhere around 10 or 12 thousand points a side. And I want the miniatures to be suitable for as many other game systems as possible. I don’t want to do things twice! Whom do we serve? “SARUMAN!”

What the fudge is going on!?!
These are the only 3 models for the Uruk hai I don’t have, they are lovely metal models and will complete the berserker collection I have. But I am very unwilling to pay these absurd prices. How or why do these things get soooo pricey? What is a person meant to do in the face of such nonsense. What are the options for those in hard times? Simply going without springs to mind. Patience? Will prices drop eventually? Is there some other places to get these sort of things?Traditionally I have sold off my old stuff to fund the new, or I have done a lot of trades with mates and acquaintances. There has also been an aweful lot of patience and collecting slowly over many years as and when an opportunity to buy at reasonable prices comes up. Most of the time there is a lot of converting, stripping and hashing different sets together. Independent shows are quite good too for people wanting to shift old metals to good homes. But occasionally there is a model that I cannot seem to get. These 3 feral Uruk hai are an example of this.
The two other things I am struggling to get over the last 5 years is empire war wagon and that oldhammer 4th Ed magic expansion:warhammer chronicles of war. I only need the cards!
Need? Interesting word. I desire very much, to my detriment. Is more accurate.
Proxies are often a great solution, especially in the case of the Perry’s, warlord, gripping beast etc. but the above desired pieces are sooo niche that they don’t seem to have acceptable sources for proxie. Printing the cards off may be possible? Making my own war wagon is possible. But it may not work very well. Bit nervous of trying. And the feral Uruk hai in metal just should not be that expensive.
This whole entry may be just a moaning session. But I’d like to also be a brain clarifier for me if possible. Just writing down the moan has me considering making my own war wagon. And printing may be acceptable for the magic cards, a shame though. But the feral Uruk hai, 3D print? Tis not the same to a metal. Re cast my own? Is that illegal?
Any ideas would be welcome.
Finally, there is the (possibly hippocritical) moral dimension to this. If a person has an object that for whatever reason is ‘worth’ loadsa lolly. They should have the right, and my blessing, to capitalise on it. I salute those persons who fairly and squarely put up an auction for a rare item and start the bud at .99p and watch it soar. Those bidders know what they are doing and are happy to pay. I’ve always put up my stuff for 0.99p and let it run. Often I do very well out of it indeed because, as we all know, we are willing to pay for these things. But that’s also not what I’m seeing all the time. Somehow there is a group of carollers who ‘get hold’ of these things and triple or quadruple the price they paid (often more) and hold the line at these lofty heights. That doesn’t feel good, it feels close to a monopoly.
On the other hand, I’ve quite enjoyed the benefits of people who buy sets of figures in bulk, or whole boxed games etc, and sell off individual components piecemeal at what I feel are fair prices. I’ve often wanted only one figure from a set and been happy to pay ,such and such, who does this fairly.
There are also those traders who set their lines very rigidly and get my custom repeatedly for their clearly very fair dealings. My hats off to Troll trader here.
But even they must be subject somewhat to price inflations.
Where are they sourcing these minis for such a price that they can turn a profit? That’s where we gamers need to go. Cut out the middle man maybe?
The generosity of some people is humbling.
Following my moaning and groaning of last update, a noble gentleman decided they would PM with an offer to send me some cards I had mentioned being missing from my collection. He sent it and asked I pay him in my own generosity to a charity of my choice. I did dutifully do this, but the chap did not stop there. He has included some lovely army cards and a piece of nostalgia that had my chest swelling, a fine detail brush from back in the day that is as good as new! Soo generous, this wargaming community has some awesome members in its ranks. I shall put these treasures to use immediately on my next painting project and in my next games. Thankyou kindly again you generous fellow wargamer! Got a game into a very busy month!
2500 points per side of second Ed loveliness. First time incorporating psychics into the game.
turned out to be a little too big a game for what we are looking for, took 5 hours for 4 turns! Next time no bigger than 2000 points and a couple less psykers. (I had 6 in this game…..) this all meant we had to track a great deal of stuff. 2nd Ed 40k is a cracking game, but small games! Narrative focus.
Njal stormcaller missed teleporting himself into a bottomless cavern by 1 inch, fought off a demonic assault, forgot 3 out of 4 of his powers then was transported into the warp by a Wraithcannon. ?
My D canon on anti grav didn’t manage to do much. Sigh. But my Psyker made an Eldritch storm that played merry hell with Bjorn for 2 turns.
in the finish I died aplenty and lost 12 points to space marines to my 10. Good enough game even though it was too much book keeping!
