About the Project
Blkout (yes, that’s how it’s spelled) by Enemy Spotted Studios is a near future, hard sci fi, skirmish game. Or as I call it, Ukraine next week. This project is my attempt to field the PMC called ORK and their task force Upyr.

Special Effects Paints
I want to make the NVGs (Night Vision Goggles) and the weapon optics to glow so I’ll be using some Army Painter Special Effects paints. I’ll be using a green for the NVGs and a blue for the optics.
Drybrushing and Washes
I’m going to give everything a drybrush of Army Painter Brain Matter Beige and then start adding washes.
I’ll use Athonian Camouflage Shade for everything green, Seraphim Sepia for everything brown, red or canvas color, Reikland Flesh Shade for the few bits of exposed skin and Nuln Oil for the few bits of Plate Mail Metal.
The white helmets will get some Army Painter Holy White mixed with Speed Paint Medium in a 2:1ratio of Medium to Holy White.
I’m doing this part now because I only want the drybrushing effect on everything except for the camouflage pattern I’ll do next.
Images above are after the drybrushing. Images below are after shades. I’ll also do highlights back to the original colors after the shades dry and repaint a few areas were some pooling of the shade occurred.
Red Camouflage
I decided to base all of my Blkout minis with a red desert scheme and then make every force with inappropriate camouflage except one. So Szabla and Ork are the only force with appropriate camouflage.
Inspired by a GW video on how to paint camouflage cloaks, I’ll base coat in GWMephiston Red, then add a bunch of very small dots of GW Celestra Gray, then more small dots of Army Painter Uniform Gray and then finally even more small dots of Matt Black.
I then give the camouflaged area a wash of GW Targor Rageshade.
Images below are after all the dots are added and Traggor Rageshade wash has been applied.
Varnish and Basing
I brushed some PVA glue onto the bases then dipped the bases into a tub filled with my red basing material then wiped away excess material with my fingers and a dentists tool.
Once the glue dried, I brushed on more PVA in the form of Woodland Scenics Scenics Cement then let that dry. Once all that dried again, I then drybrushed the base with GW Ryza Rust.
Glamour Shots
Before I got ORK, I had a Blacklist unit called Szabala. In game terms a Blacklist unit can replace one of your units. Essentially anyone can hire them but they don’t get your army’s special rules.
Szabala is different in that they do get to use at least some of ORKs special rules as they were originally recruited from the same Polish special forces that ORK came from.
I painted Szabla awhile back using the same technique I’ve described here.
First Contact
I have a friend who’s interested in Blkout and he wanted to give ORK a try so I leant him my minis and he got a couple of games in. Here are a few action shots.
