Welcome to the fifteenth (hopefully not last) monthly painting competition (PaintComp) down here in the forums. Taking a page from @warbossd gaming club book as inspiration there will be a key word or phrase set at the start of the month and anybody who likes to participates paints something up, builds something or whatever creative outlet strikes them, as long as there is at least a tenuous link to the key word.
Then, not later than midnight local time on the 25th of each month you post your results here (not in the project system!) and we all get to do a community vote on it! Voting will open on the 26th and will close at midnight local time on the 28th with results posted the following day.
There are no prizes involved, only fun! It’s not mandatory. It’s just for fun.
The key phrase for this month is:
Contrast
September 2, 2026 at 5:38 pm #1984085This is a theme with lots of posibilities…. Contrasting colours, contrasting miniatures or just any random miniature painted with contrast paint. Hope to see a lot of entries.
September 6, 2026 at 4:49 pm #1984280September 21, 2026 at 9:44 pm #1985741Here’s my entry. I had five models lined up, but I’m not going to get another done by Friday. Here’s an exercise in painting contrast. More details in my project entry: https://www.ontabletop.com/project/1958929/

September 22, 2026 at 2:51 pm #1985871Here are some Minis from Dungeons and Lasers. The contrast between rich and poor. The noble lady and the beggar.

September 25, 2026 at 3:00 pm #1986192Quick reminder for anyone lurking out there that today is the final day for submissions this month. Please post here by midnight tonight.
I’m just finishing off my entry and should have it posted later this evening.
September 25, 2026 at 9:03 pm #1986223I’ve gone large. Not scale, volume. Orc slaves to replace my Ratkin slaves in my Abyssal Dwarf KoW army.

So large they don’t fit the backdrop :/ The contrast here is the paint, not the GW sort, these are painted with AP Speedpaints. Another contrast is therefore the time. These were painted in three sessions across two days so each miniature took me about 15 minutes.
September 26, 2026 at 11:25 pm #1986262Submissions have closed. The poll is open, closes midnight on Monday. Results on Tuesday 29th.
September 29, 2026 at 9:55 am #1986423Results are in…
Congratulations to @danlee You are this month’s victor.
Given that we are down to just the three of us doing this for the last couple of months now perhaps it is time to stop? What do you think?
We can always try bringing it back next year if there is a some more interest then.September 29, 2026 at 1:47 pm #1986477I’m sorry I don’t contribute. I’m not a great painter and for a few months the competition subject happened to coincide with something I had painted a few weeks before.
September 29, 2026 at 1:57 pm #1986478I don’t mind if we are with only three participants and I don’t mind if I win or not. This competition gives me some extra motivation to paint, that’s a reward on itself. I let it up to you if we continue.
September 29, 2026 at 2:22 pm #1986490September 29, 2026 at 5:12 pm #1986500I will definitely enter something if you do one for October.
September 29, 2026 at 6:34 pm #1986518Well that’s a clear expression of positive intent. Thanks everyone.
The honour is yours @danlee Please set us up for October 🙂
September 29, 2026 at 6:59 pm #1986529one day I will try this … but until that day I shall observe and plan.
I’d say we need something Orky or Spooky, but alas I am not the one defining the word for the October contest.
Maybe we need a Spooktober and Orktober threads ?
Say what … let’s do this.
//off-topicCongratulations to the winners of this thread 🙂
