I’m currently spending most of my free time playing a Kingdom Death campaign. Around that, I’ve been trying my first busts for a few years. Fist up is the Dryad Bust by H3ll Creator. Not the finest bust, but she appealed to me when I first got my printer during Covid 5 years ago. She was a good place to start learning busts again, and I did not do my finest work. She’s sculpted to have plant veins growing through her, which I did not like. I turned the ones on her arms in to part of her sleeves. I tried turning the ones on her chest in to stray hairs, but instantly hated it and tried turning them in to scars. I bungled the flesh tones a bit. I really should have gone back to her after doing the next bust, but she just doesn’t have my interest anymore so I’m calling her a learning experience and moving on.
Next I tried Elf Archer bust by Midost. I went back to a video guide to try and get better results and it definitely worked (Part 1 & Part 2). She’s far from perfect, but I’m a lot happier with her, than the dryad.
I also picked up 10 more models from KDM in what appears to be a GenCon discount. Pretty sure equivalent boxes have cost me more in previous years. They’re all built and primed and ready to go, and the Pillar Forge Priest is jumping to the head of the queue as he’s already appeared in my current campaign. I’ve around 30 models primed and ready to paint on my desk so no more busts for now, but I do own a few more.
