About the Project

Yet another army build that might be a brain child possibly of more trouble than anticipated. This time its using more of the Harryhausen inspiration from the 1963 film "Jason and the Argonauts" ... and then the 1981 original of "Clash of the Titans" for an ancient Greek force

Procrastination has been bested. I finally got these two chariots completed. Looking back on the photos I need to remove a little of the excess basing material that sat on the models. I’m excited to be done with these having been pushed on by last month’s painting challenge.

The regular option had sat for months without any progress and I feel Gerry’s pain regarding rigging. Making twisted wire rope, tying it and attaching to the horses wasn’t fun but it was worth the attention to detail.

The tricycle of pain has all the work done on it. I even added a bit more as I thought about the front end and the men attached.

The fender was detailed to make it stand out and look cool since my first pass wasn’t so spectacular. It works and keeps the eyes moving about.

The guys got an added set of chains glued to their backs instead of using more “ropes”. I decided to use my hobby supplies instead of hoard them and came up with the use cause here. Either end is glued down with CA glue and the links got a touch of Modpodge to keep them from shifting around. I did all this before the varnish phase so it should be stable for the future.

The last detail of eyes will be added after I wind down. This has been a bit of a rollercoaster to push through these almost final steps.

An update for the sake of saying this project is still being difficult. I am in no way proud of the recent work I have achieved after getting paint down on the hippocampus riders. Parts I thought might work kick me in the face for lack of my own skills. My resculpts are good to a point but I feel that I should have left this to a more accomplished sculptor. Ugh, I am disappointed in myself right now and the foot dragging is almost at an end.

What a pain in the everloving butt the conversion ended up being to finish this all out. I am only pleased to be done as it was so irritating. Multiple breaks, bends and the adhesive refusing to bond properly made the joins infuriating to work on. It is finished. My army is complete and I move on.

The Harryhausen Hellenics are complete

Once more the shock of completing an army has hit me and I felt week in the knees to have it all out. Its a lot to handle thinking there isn’t any more and I don’t need to keep pulling it out to later put it back. The models are painted and my ideas have all become concrete entities. I made up portions to fill in gaps where I didn’t even know I would need or want to play around with as I slotted in units.

Its a good day. It is better as I won a game of SAGA on top of this. The rollercoaster is a bit harrowing with the queasy feeling it leaves me with but I’m proud. I guess this is my New Year’s resolution completed since my commission for the Spirits of Synthwave hasn’t brought up any more minis. *hard sigh* Yeah…
