Basing
Basing for snow was mentioned on the Yellow Belly podcast last night, as promised here is a run down of how I am doing mine.
First, paint your base with a muddy brown colour, then I add a little texture paint for more interest
Then I add a few tufts and some AK snow acrylic.
Next step is watered down PVA followed by a static grass mixed with some white powder, it’s not flock , it comes premixed.
I then sprinkle some woodlands scenics flock over this, let it dry for about ten minutes then infuse the base with IPA

Made some decent progress, I just hope the bases for the fleabag riders turn up today or tomorrow. Still not sure on the troll colour but I will stick with it.

Managed to get nearly four hours painting in today, despite work’s best efforts.
Got some new AK metallic waxes in tubes, it’s basically a softer version of Rub’n’Buff from my steampunk crafting days.
Looks ok, but I haven’t hit it with any kind of wash as of yet.
14/01 A Mini Challenge
After losing two weeks because I got distracted by a meme(!). I find myself a week away from my first game of Kings of War. A kind chap at my FLGS offered to bring a couple of Ambush size forces to play a learning game , He sent me an army list and looking at it, if I get the miniatures below painted then I can field the full force.
I’ll have to proxy the Troll hero and build another mincer but no biggie.

Update 29/12
I had 50 cavalry to build , 20 archers and 30 cavalry . Using the 50%+1 rule in KoW I should be able to squeeze 7-9 regiments out of this lot
The first kit took about an hour and half to assemble, once I knew what went where I got it down to about 45 minutes .One frustrating thing was having to use Superglue rather than polystyrene cement, it’s messy and less precise. The model quality is ok, but I am confident a bunch of them painted up on a multi base will look great
WIP update 15/12
Another week, another regiment, also finished a chariot and my mounted goblin king (bar the basing)
Zeros and ones
I also printed a batch of goblins to make chariot crew and some extras for various regiments
WIP update 11/12
Had a weekend of building rather than painting, only the giant, 40 cav, 2 chariots and 80 grunts to build…
WIP update
Haven’t done too much this week having finished regiment number one on Sunday, but hope to have another one done tonight.
I want to make the base and figures look more connected, all those pristine boots on snowy ground looks a little off. Will be having a think about that…
