It is a good usage of Speculative Fire, would love to see another video on the offensive capabilities of this long skill.
We’re going to have a look at Grenade Launchers later in the series… of course if someone asks a specific question and sends it to ask@beastsofwar.com we may get to it sooner. 😉

For the sake of completeness they should have shown what occurs if you miss the roll to hit.
We’re going to cover dispersion rolls when we have a look at Combat Jump.
catching two birds with one stone, I like that.
Dispersion Rolls can have a seriously detrimental effect during a Combat Jump, so it seemed the ideal place to discuss it.
However, we’ll probably cover Dispersion Rolls during offiensive Speculative Fire too… maybe land a grenade on our own guys… just for fun! 😀
I hope you excuse me Andy but let me be a bit picky about something Mike had wrong since the first videos. The name of the japanese core infantry unit is not Butai but KEISOTSU. Actually the full name is Keisotsu Butai, but that’s because in japanese language butai means squad or regiment. You can realize that many Infinity YuJing japanese troops add butai.
Aragoto Senken Butai (advanced squad Aragoto)
Domaru Butai (Domaru regiment)
Harakamaki Zensen Butai (Shock regiment Haramaki)
Oyoroi Kidô Butai (mechanised squad Oyoroi)
Tokusetsu Butai (regiment of special support)
I wonder if you could correct this bad habit in then next videos as I think it would help to prevent future missundertandings.

I don’t think it was clear that it was a grenade being thrown. Throwing a grenade uses Physical roll and not BS. It took a few time seeing to for it to be clear to me. It might help if you talk a little slower for idiots like me. Also some more description of the shadow zone would have been good. Pure technical is okay but you should have described how if you are too close to the wall you are throwing/shooting strait up and the grenade just comes back down on top of you. You need to be away from the wall to create an arc, for the grenade to go over the obstacle.
I sort of assumed it was physical skill as I know the rules a little bit, but yeah that part was a bit vague. Shadowzone was pretty clear for me though.
I really like how you can combine stuff into a cool tactic that is strong but I think infinity is a game more about how you use what you have then having some uber list rule all. After all smoke tactics can be countered easily by having visors yourself.
This “shadow zone” sounds like some bad stuff. If your in it what happens? All things with the word “zone” in it is bad, its the rules 😛
Well,While your in “shadow zone”, strange things start to happen…
You unlock a door with a key of imagination,
Beyond it is another dimension…
a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind.
Your entering into a land of both shadow and substance, things and ideas…
you’ve just crossed over into…
The twilight zone…
this can put a bit of a damper on your game as no one knows what happens in the twilight zone, or how it changes the game mechanics. Best just to stay out of the shadow zone if possible.
Twilight zone sounds like burning….
The concept of shadow zone is an abstraction that simulates the fact that real world phisics would prevent a grenade, thrown by someone at the otherside of a tall obstruction, from falling at your feet because there’s only a given parabolic routes the grenade can follow in order to be thrown over the building. In Infinity you can’t throw/fire speculative fire over a obstacle if you’re inside its shadow zone. In the same way, the point you’re aiming the center of the template to be thrown at can’t be inside a shadow of any obstacle the line of shot passes through. To sum up, sticking to hight obstacles or buidings is a way to prevent being a victim of speculative fire. However keep in mind the radius of a circular template is 2.4 inches and the diameter of infantry miniature base is 1 inch. That means a normal infantry unit needs to stick to a 3.4 inches height obstruction in order to be safe from suffering speculative shoots, Which is about the equivalent of a two story building.

The reason we just point at some guys and call them “Butai“, is because the names are a bit difficult to pronounce consistently… and we were using Butai… albeit two types.
If we are referring to particular ability of a particular model, we will try to use the correct name. However, with generic effects, we’ll probably just refer to them as “this ninja guy” or “that samurai dude“. It makes it easier on us, when we don’t have to stop filming, while we stumble our way through the pronuciations of all these models!
We’re using Aleph and JSA at the moment, but we’ll start using more varied models in these videos as soon as I can get them ready for the camera… work at BoW doesn’t stop when you get home folks! 😀

I think its good you’re continuing to offer content on Infinity. I actually found speculative grenade throws a bit of a pain at first when reading the rules, so it’d have been useful to have had this video when I was reading the rules and my brain was dribbling out of my ears. Hopefully it’ll save the new comers to the game from that sort of pain!!! lol.
Speculative fire is one of the rules that people always have problems at first…but it´s good to know how to use it.
As examples, covering troops movementswith smoke or with an infiltrator as a Hunzakut , or TAGs with heavy grenade launcher to do a good sweep of the enemy deploy zone , although it is a quick way to spend Orders and with good coverage, not so helpful.
If anyone wants to see more about speculative fire, shadow zones etc, I did long ago (with the help of the staff-man Gutier Lusquiños) a complete graphic example .
