Medbury Miniatures Go Exploring With Cesaro’s Fantasy Conquistadors

Medbury Miniatures has taken to Kickstarter with their newest 28/32mm scale Fantasy collection. Cesaro's Conquistadors are on the march into fabled and faraway lands with all sorts of brilliant digital and physical miniatures for you to bring to your wargaming battlefields.

This project was actually born out of an idea for kitbashed and converted Warlord and English Civil War figures that would be turned into a Fantasy Conquistador army. These new figures that you see here come from Medbury's recollections of that army and allowing it to have a new life with some brilliant figures that could be used for all sorts of Fantasy wargames, both skirmish-based and rank-and-file.

The range of miniatures is based on the design of arms and armour that you could find within Renaissance armies and those adventuring Conquistadors who headed to plunder the New World. For that reason, you'll see plenty of miniatures in this collection that are very well grounded in history, even with the various stylised changes to their attire.

The project was also bolstered by a local artist and wargamer called Ben H, who added concept art and additional ideas to the project, enhancing the Fantasy elements with the addition of Halflings, Dwarves and Ogres. Suddenly, this is looking like a really spiffing Old World or classic Warhammer Fantasy Battles army.

Medbury Miniatures has made the campaign easy to back. If you want to print the miniatures at home, there is a digital pledge which gives you everything in one bundle of STL files. If you want to dive in and get the physical miniatures, then there are various options for you to choose from, as well as bundles which give you warbands or armies to get you started.

The campaign covers pretty much everything that you could think of needing if you were to build yourself a Conquistador army for your wargames. You've got plenty of the rank and file with the Pikemen and the likes of the Rodelero.

There are also plenty of mounted figures in this set, so you've got some miniatures to storm down the flanks of an enemy army and pick off their undefended troops. I have always been a fan of Medbury's sculpting style, which works so well for both Historical miniatures and Fantasy ones. This is the perfect blend of the two.

I really like the Lancero (above) but one of my favourite packs has to be for the Ogres, which I didn't notice at first when I was looking at this campaign!

Ogres // Medbury Miniatures

The Ogres look superbly fearsome and like they'd cleave you in two with those swords. You also have the third Ogre who realised that the army wasn't going back to the ship and therefore decided to bring one of the cannons with him! Brilliant. He just needs a faithful Halfling loader to help him with the cannonballs.

I think the Skirmish Warband is a great shout for someone who wants to get a taste of the different miniatures from the campaign and have something usable for different games. They feel like they would be great for all manner of different games. I did think they might be fun for something like Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago if you could tinker with some rules for black powder weapons.
