I’m not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, if it has I couldn’t find it but this makes for some very interesting reading
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-07-24-pai-partners-bids-for-asmodee-in-1-2-billion-deal
Essentially Asmodee is being sold for 1.2 Billion Euros. Buyers say they have no interest in changing the business, though if that position lasts much longer than a year I will surprised.
This was hinted at for some time, I think @warzan mentioned it several times on the Weekender a good while back, on seperate ones. I would hope it doesen’t change too drastically.
Im assuming the buyer was Disney….
So, those who’ve been following the industry more closely… What COULD this mean? As in, what might a buyer want to change about Asmodee? What does it mean for everyone else?
Oof. Well the two words “equity firm” signal that Asmodee had better continue to pump out good, increasing profits or the equity firm will strip out and sell off assets in order to get the profits they want.
I wonder if they sense the first signs of change in the market and are looking to get out while they are still worth a boat load.
Hate, death may die and solomo kane have taken considerably less than similar offerings from previous years.
these folks aren’t in it for the love of the hobby so it could just be the algorithms telling them to move their money into potatoes or rivets.
once table top inevitably stops being cool we are going to see a lot less money in the hobby.
I was thinking exactly the same thing,
Looking at the massive growth in GW stock over the past 4 years it’s clear that as with all things there will be a peak followed by decline. Perhaps they sense we are reaching peak Board game, Kickstarter, Mini, Hobby (delete as appropriate) and want to get out when the going is clearly very good.
They don’t say what the make up of the offer is, but one would assume that there would be a performance aspect to it which would pay out the shareholders in stages over a set period based on a set expectation.
