The vast majority of the new games I’ve gotten into have been as a result of coverage on OTT.
For me theme is the first thing I look at. Then I try to get a sense of whether I’ll like the rules or not, but that can be difficult to assess unless you can actually play the game. More often than not, if the theme appeals to me and I like the models, I’ll at least buy what I need to try the game out.
With that in mind, ease of entry is another selling point: is there a starter set with everything I need to play the game? The last game I really jumped into was Star Schlock, which has an excellent starter set that includes two complete forces along with dice, measuring tools and tokens, so all I had to do was scrounge up some terrain. Guards of Traitor’s Toll looks to be similar — I haven’t managed to get it to the table yet so we’ll have to see, but I’m optimistic, it seems like something my partner and I will enjoy.
EDIT: I almost forgot the obligatory music clip. I re-watched Sid and Nancy recently, so here is the very silly video for the title track by Joe Strummer.

Very true. No matter how good a game is if I need to spend a three digit number on it just to “try it out” I’m not bothering any more.
Apologies to anybody waiting for a stream yesterday but I really wasn’t feeling it. And I don’t mean I felt sick or anything is just had less then zero motivation to turn on the camera.
Instead I worked on my Bug Spring Clean project. Oh boy, that get’s work intensive XD
May 6, 2026 at 5:23 pm #1973574@sundancer Impressive progress with the ‘Nids. You are really pushing through the drudgery bit. You’ll have them reassembled and be on to painting any minute now.
No need to apologise for not providing us with entirely free entertainment. Of course you shouldn’t do it if you don’t feel it in the moment. Hopefully we’ll see you there next week.

May 9, 2026 at 3:49 pm #1973851As it is the weekend and we have a thread to use how about a new question? When was the last time you got more than you bargained for in a hobby deal?
Answer: I got overexcited on Star Wars Day and saw a lot on eBay which said it was the Shatterpoint core set. I stuck in a cheeky bid and to my surprise it was accepted! Even more surprising, when the lot arrived it was not only to core set but also 3 expansions with the miniatures and another 3 with the just cards. I needed a new game like a hole in the head, but everyone loves a bargain 🙂
And now for some québécois craziness:
May 9, 2026 at 4:16 pm #1973852I forgot to do a pledge: I’m still working on a unit for the Dogs of War SCC so I had better get that sorted this week.
Also, for those interested in Sand (definitely not Dune) there was a message from the creators on Patreon:
I know some of you have messaged me via ebay concerning international shipping BUT ebay’s messenger doesn’t allow me to settle transaction done outside of ebay on their messaging system… So please message on here instead and I’ll make sure you get a copy
May 9, 2026 at 4:19 pm #1973853Made the mistake of changing the BoW email address to one I actually check and now I keep getting emails when a forum is updated. Tried disabling it in account settings, but can’t find a way and it’s tedious having to uncheck the box at the end of each forum post and I forget sometimes.
May 10, 2026 at 4:42 am #1973866@zoidpinhead do you have a link for the SAND people? I REALLY want these rules. Google is useless – it brings up a lot of golf references. ⛳️

@pagan8th I use Gmail. You have the option there to have your mail screened and for things like Social Media updates to be filtered out of your main Inbox.
May 10, 2026 at 10:28 am #1973876I have been working on my MCP project for over a month now and detailing the colours used.
Just found out that I had misread Nazdreg Yellow and Hazdreg Yellow.
Going to have to edit the damned thing.
Doh!!!
May 10, 2026 at 1:23 pm #1973900When was the last time you got more than you bargained for in a hobby deal?
Never. But that’s mostly due to how much work and research I invest before spending any money.
Pledge: work on tyranids

May 11, 2026 at 2:15 pm #1973969Monday. Dentist appt this afternoon. I’d rather have a colonoscopy.
May 11, 2026 at 10:22 pm #1974055Not going to disagree with you @grantinvanman and I have experienced both. The crown was far more unpleasant than a team of explorers visiting rear opening.
