Wizards Of The Coast Bring D&D & World Of Warcraft Together
August 3, 2026 by brennon
Wizards of the Coast announced a bunch of new content coming to their roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons, during GenCon. Dark Sun is coming back alongside teasers of a Star Wars collaboration but one of the biggest announcements was the new World of Warcraft supplement for the game.
World Of Warcraft Expansion // Dungeons & Dragons
The new gameplay expansion from Wizards of the Coast will come with all-new rules for playing thirteen World of Warcraft classes, featuring nine new and revised subclasses and over forty specialisations to draw you even deeper into Azeroth. This is then expanded upon with eleven new species, sixty-plus new spells and twenty-five-plus new magical items. Everything that you need for building a character from World of Warcraft.
D&D: World Of Warcraft - Ultimate Bundle // Wizards of the Coast
This means that you'll be able to play roles like the Death Knight, Druid, Shaman and Warrior, amongst others, all with full support for storytelling in World of Warcraft using the 5.5e mechanics that drive the current version of Dungeons & Dragons.
A lot of that will then be bundled up inside some great options for those wanting to mainline World of Warcraft via Dungeons & Dragons. For example, the Ultimate Bundle above comes with a Dungeon Master's Screen, the Gameplay Expansion, map packs, tokens and the adventure module, Icecrown Citadel.
Icecrown Citadel: Adventure Map Pack // Dungeons & Dragons
Icecrown Citadel is one of the famous raids from the days of yore and comes with a level sixteen to twenty digital adventure that has you finally facing off against the Lich King himself. A lot of the options can also be picked up separately from the bundle, so you've got some options as to which way you want to buy into the game.
Dungeon Master's Screen // D&D: World Of Warcraft
Of the various Fantasy properties that could be folded into the Dungeons & Dragons mechanics, World of Warcraft does feel like a no-brainer. The High Fantasy elements of World of Warcraft blend well with those of Dungeons & Dragons and fit into the heroic power fantasy that you get from the 5.5e mechanics.
It will be interesting to see how much of a chance the various classes, subclasses and races have on the way the game plays. It certainly sounds like Wizards of the Coast has put a lot of effort into developing the various character options, so it will be fascinating to see how it all lines up.
Could you see yourself diving into a collaboration between World of Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons?

I’m kind of surprised they haven’t done this ages ago …
They did have a Diablo 2 campaign box.
I’d rather see them put more effort into world building toolkits instead of a paint by the numbers campaign setting.
LEEEEEEEEROY JENKINS!
