Warhammer Age of Sigmar's new Spearhead box is going to be coming up for pre-order this weekend. City of Ash brings the fighting of The Mortal Realms to Embergard, a city devastated by the Vermindoom and the Skaven. Which side will you pick to fight over Embergard?

Spearhead City of Ash - Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

Spearhead: City of Ash // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Embergard lies in ruins and the forces of Order and Chaos fight desperate battles in the ash-clogged streets. Much like with the warbands of Warhammer Underworlds, small forces are looking to get their hands on valuable emberstone, the Realmstone of Aqshy, either to secure it against the enemy or to fuel terrible and nightmarish plans of the enemy.

Cities Of Sigmar Elites

Fighting to secure it, you have the Cities of Sigmar Spearhead, led by the fearless Jorvan Kreel, the Heir of the Kraken.

As well as Kreel and his companion, Thexa the Ash Panther, you will also get a Mallus Forgepriest, five heavily armoured Freeguild Gallants and ten Freeguild Grenadiers, armed with some fearsome weapons to put down the Skaven infestation that has overrun Embergard.

I think this is a great self-contained set of figures for use with Warhammer Age of Sigmar and the Cities of Sigmar themselves. The miniatures are just a bit too detailed for me when it comes to tackling them as an army. But, I could see this being a manageable slice of the faction to get painted up for use in Spearhead games.

I think I'd paint my miniatures in the purple of the city of Lethis as a force that has been drawn to Aqshy to aid in securing the city. It would then match nicely with the mortals from my Stormcast Eternals army.

New Skaven Assassins

If you'd prefer to bring ruin to The Mortal Realms, then you can also get the Skaven Spearhead from this set, led by Deathmaster Crixxit.

Skaven - City of Ash // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

As well as the new Deathmaster Crixxit, this set also comes with the existing Skaven Deathmaster. Maybe you could set up a contest between the two as they try to get more kills than the other! Each would be secretly hoping that the contest would claim the life of the others. Classic Skaven planning.

The Deathmasters are backed up by the stunning new Gutter Runners and Night Runners that replace the very, very old set that is currently in circulation. You will get ten of each, armed with all sorts of deadly implements for killing their foes in excruciating ways. I like how a lot of the poses mirror the style of the older miniatures as a call back to that original Mordheim set.

Capping off this set, you will also get two Bomb Rats, which are going to cause more havoc as they run around the board. Hopefully, they blow up near some Emberstone to cause a bit of madness!

What Else Is Inside?

As well as both armies, you'll also get the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Handbook to walk you through the essential rules of the game, a new City of Ash Battlepack with new missions and more rules and your double-sided Spearhead game board. There is also additional plastic terrain, relic objectives and your decks of Spearhead cards.

Whilst this set focuses around a clash between the Cities of Sigmar and Skaven, it's still Spearhead, so there's no reason why you couldn't bring in other factions to see how they deal with the new battlefield.

I should also note that this will be your first chance to get these new miniatures; however, they will all be available separately in different sets at a later date.

Are you tempted by this new Spearhead set?
