Pre-Orders Now Live For Modiphius’ XCOM Miniatures Game

Modiphius are now taking pre-orders for its newest 32mm scale Sci-Fi skirmish game, XCOM: The Miniatures Game. You'll be able to dive into this solo and cooperative miniature game and tackle the alien menace threatening Earth!

Before we kick off and dive into what's available, there are two options for those seeking to dive into this game. You can either go with the HIPS plastic miniatures or explore Modiphius' resin options. You're still getting the same miniatures across the various sets (See Here) but just in your preferred material.

We should kick off with the Getting Started Bundle. This leads with the big XCOM: The Miniatures Game Core Rulebook, which contains all of the rules you need to play the game, covering solo games, cooperative clashes and player versus player, where one person takes on the role of the aliens.

The set also comes with one full set of Operatives and Set One of the Aliens. That includes Sectoids, Sectoid Commander, Thin Men, and the Outsider. You also get the exclusive Ghost Sniper promotional miniature (in clear resin, whichever material you go for).

If you want to grab more miniatures and the related XCOM accessories from Modiphius, then there is also the All-In Bundle.

All-In Bundle // XCOM: The Miniatures Game

This comes with the same contents as the previous kit, plus of second set of aliens. This introduces the Chryssalids, Seekers, and Floaters into the mix for your games. You will also get a dice set (regular dice but with alien head designs on them), the reference card pack and the tokens and standees, which will be useful during gameplay. All of those accessories are also available separately HERE.

Core Rulebook

Beyond those bundle offerings, you'll also be able to buy lots of the different elements that make up XCOM: The Miniatures Game separately. The Rulebook is available on its own if you want to use existing miniatures from your collection (perhaps some of your Stargrave miniatures?).

Inside this book you'll find all of the rules for play, including starting out with your Rookies and building them into hardened fighters like the Assault, Support, Heavy or Sniper, Psi Operative, and MEC Trooper.

You'll be able to play through a full XCOM campaign, building scenarios from thirty-three options. There is also a three-part tutorial in the book to help you get familiar with the rules. There will also be all of the rules for expanding your HQ and enhancing your armoury of weapons, just like in the video game.

Cap all that off with the various rules for the different aliens (and EXALT) plus ways to play player versus player games and you've got a solid set of options in here for someone wanting to play out XCOM but on the tabletop.

The Miniatures

All of the miniatures are also available separately, starting with the Operatives themselves.

This set comes with your classic XCOM Operatives, namely two Assaults, two Supports, a Sniper and a Heavy. You can almost guarantee that one of the Assaults will die almost immediately and the Sniper and Heavy will do a bunch of the work to actually win the encounter. One of your Supports might live and be able to level up to a medic, so you're not screwed. Ah, XCOM.

You also then have your two sets of Aliens.

Aliens Set Two // XCOM: The Miniatures Game

Set One comes with miniatures for three Sectoids, three Thin Men, a Sectoid Commander and an Outsider. Set Two comes with two Seekers, two Floaters and two Chryssalids. Again, as a reminder, all of the miniatures that you've been seeing here can either be picked up in plastic or resin, depending on your preference. I have linked to all of the cheaper plastic kits in this piece but you can find the resin options HERE.

I'm sure that this range is going to expand quite a bit considering the wealth of options available in the XCOM games. I'm sure we'll see plenty more Operative options, perhaps of a more veteran status, and some EXALT troops to go up against them.
