Ewok Does Steampunk

After six months waiting Ironclad/Pendraken came through with the rest of the order.  I set about assembling and priming.

They are generally pretty straightforward forward, but I will have to wait for the images to go up on the Pendraken site to assemble a couple of them. Just got to paint and give them stat blocks now

So, while I was painting a few medieval troops I was printing a centrepiece for the steampunk project. I plan to paint it up as a bit of a rust bucket as there’s no chance of getting something so delicate in pristine condition using FDM. I still have sails to finish printing. I will paint those separately as they will be a pain if I try and paint the rest with them attached.

I have also made a start on the final Malverian troops, the main infantry, I primed them black then dry brushed them with a couple of dark greys. Using the logic that black is pretty much never actually black in natural light. Next I painted the bedrolls and started on the faces

Next up in the series of impractical vehicles/ scenery comes the mahoosive Diplodocus 🦕. This is for the Zulus and I plan to add a platform for some Zulus

Finally for the Malverians, it’s fair to say they aren’t known for their subtlety when it comes to artillery. This beast is a prototype designed to shoot Martian capsules out of orbit.

I picked up a design that allows me to use translucent filament to get a nice glow effect. I figured they could be capture/control points and change the colour to reflect which side controlled it. I do have a neutral option as well, but have not printed it yet.

So having decided to take a break from this project , just painting something else for a wee while. Naturally Pendraken decided to make good on the miniatures I had ordered from Ironclad. I thought I had only ordered 20 or so.
I spent my birthday weekend cleaning and priming over 130 steampunk miniatures.

On the downside, the casting on some of the miniatures was quite poor. Can’t help feeling they may have been rushed. Thankfully it was only a handful.

The new miniatures have given me some ideas for some skirmish scenarios as well as the big battle stuff.

As always the 3D printer has been chuntering away. I treated myself to a 6×4 beach landing mat, having some ideas about a coastal kerfuffle.

I printed some landing barges that should comfortably fit movement trays in, if required.

These have been fun to paint, nice miniatures. I have used a mix of Army Painter and Vallejo. I took the opportunity to try out some of the new John Blanche colours from the ‘cold’ box , I like them, but I don’t think they are as essential as the first two boxes.

Now to add a wash and do some highlights and details.

I have been printing a few pieces to create a large Aetherium drilling station , typical of kind scattered all over the Imperial powers colonies, stealing natural resources from the natives. These make good objects to attack or defend.

Continuing with the Malverian forces we move onto the navy, which is a catch all for anything sea or air related in the Malverian arsenal. I have three electric cannons and a squad of marines to go with them.

I have not started the marines yet. Just the artillery and crews.

In the background I have printed out an airship station, makes a good centre piece and could be the focal point of a scenario, a holding action while civilians escape perhaps.

I have not glued the windows yet as I may do further work on some lighting

There’s still some work on the joins to be done and then some weathering. I may paint the inside white as the whole structure is rather dark.

Latest WIP Update, these are the shock troops, first out of the tunnels. These are highly respected fighters and the only unit outside of the Jagers permitted to wear the green jacket. Also featured is Baron Von Oktoberfest and Steve.
