Totally regrets botting on the Squat question now. I was sat just off camera in the front row,
Maybe we can get Justin & co to ask them instead?
Very nice seminar, a good portion of what was revealed has already been shown on the community sight. Loved the new tank.
I think the new tank is kind of lame.
The landraider & rhino never were big enough to fit the classic space marines even though the stats said they could fit.
Now these guys show up and they get their own transport ?
It kind of feels lame.
So you are complaining about them fixing your complaint ?
I am not generally a victim to the hype but really feeling compelled to get the starter box. It didn’t help that I was checking out the models last week at he local GW store and they were sweet!
Thanks for posting this. Like dissidentaos I usually don’t get caught up by 40K stuff but I have well and truly caught the hype train.
The changes GW have made to the way they talk to their community over the last 12 months has made me do a complete 180 degree (or pi radian… what ever floats your boat) turn on how I felt about the company. I never hated it , but just seeing more of the people behind the scenes and the enthusiasm that they have for their work has rekindled my desire to actively support them.
So thanks for posting this , I really enjoyed it
Argh.. trying so hard to stick to other games and skirmish level stuff… but this is making it so tough to not pre-order 8th edition!
“Extensively playtested”. They really have changed, haven’t they? 🙂
I haven’t been this excited for 40K in a loooong time!
Awesome stuff. Watched the live streamed games on Twitch yesterday and gotta say I am loving 8th ed already.
Already pre-ordered the starter set (and I never pre-order stuff) along with some other sweet stuff to add to the Deathguard.
Not entirely sold on the Flyno yet. Will take some getting used to.
Just got back from the games expo and watched this, really looking forward to this. Have ordered the starter set and those nice objective markers.
I still think that hover tank looks like someone stuck the tracks of a rhino on the bottom, I like it from the back but not sure
go seeing GW out and about taking about the stuff.
Would have liked to see them looking beyond the release, but it is positive they are out and talking. I really like the tank.
@hairybrains I am sure “I like if from the back, but I am not sure” has been the start of a few relationships
That tank is the second WORST vehicle design I have ever seen from GW. Yikes! The missiles are just boxes glued on higgily piggily with no thought. And why so many Lascannons? And it’s Grav!? This new Space Marine minimum design doesn’t fit the aesthetic at all. Why make this? I usually buy at least one copy of a new GW vehicle… not this one.
Interesting stuff, thanks!
Overall I enjoyed this seminar, understand this is a UK games expo targeting local market but Pete Foley was a tad hard to understand due to the cadence of his speech, had to rewind a few times to decouple the actual words.
Positives I took out of this was re-enforcement of all the great work the community team has been doing getting the information out to the masses in digestible portions. Chapter Approved – Yes very happy to hear that is making a comeback in the format described.
Apocalypse Reference – BOOM that won me over, my favourite “fun” part of the game.
Negatives – That Tank, OMG I have to agree with @redsarge comments. To me it looked like a floating box and would not aesthetically blend into an existing space marine army. Stand alone Primaris or successor chapter paint schema and heraldry sure that would work. Again this is personal taste only and to some it will appeal but give me tanks with tracks any day 🙂
@ultramarine40 Thanks for this, I was afraid my lack of comprehension of what he was saying was just me.
This seminar coverage was a real treat. Congrats on the media partner action.
Thanks for the Coverage !
Sadly, the sound is so bad I’m getting nothing out of this – especially the FAQ session. Most of what’s said is so garbled I’m really struggling to make sense of it.
And the first 20 minuttes… What a horrible presentation of the game. Nothing new was said and a lot of time was wasted looking at badly made movies / animations. Heck, the guy on the right (Andy, isn’t it?) looked like he was absolutely bored out of his mind in the beginning.
In summary
”Some of the worst mistakes we made with the 40k rule set, when we moved from 2nd to 3rd edition have finally been reversed OVER FIFTEEN YEARS LATE!!
We have just copied some ideas from our competitors games, and not really looked at the core game play issues. But because we have fixed some of our worst excesses you will be so happy , you will keep buying our products.”
I am happy GW plc are moving,( eventually,) in the right direction .But actual game development at GW towers, is still taking a back see to short term minature sales.
Had you expected anything else?
Thanks for showing this – much appreciated.
I am slowly coming around to the idea of 40k again. My thoughts on the GW community guys? Great stuff; this is what I’ve been wanting to see for years; charismatic people with a dry sense of humour and willing to engage.
Some of the responses on the tank are spot on, but the idea of an anti-grav tank wins me over. Sure there are a few bolt on component weapons which are not very plausible, but I’m sure a measure of customisation will resolve that issue. Historically, there have been plenty of other vehicles needing the same treatment and have become superior models. Well done, GW, you’ve got a believer again.
Cannot wait.
I thought it was a great seminar, the animations showed some of that “New GW(TM)” humour, thanks to BoW I got to see something I would never have otherwise seen.
Summer campaign sounds great, I’d like to get some games on the table during that.
I’ve decided I’m fairly indifferent to all the new Space Marine stuff that I’ve seen so far (I’ve not seen it with my own two eyes yet though). Though when the video for the new tank came on my first thought was “hmmm…. I wonder if I could convert a Demolisher cannon onto the front of that and make it a hovering Vindicator?” hehehe
The changes GW have made in the past year or so, and now this new edition of 40k, has been enough to get me to buy 3 start collecting boxes for myself and my 2 kids. Can’t wait for the rule books to be released next week!
I have bought the 8th edition box on pre-order.
I have never played 40k and would normally ignore all 40k related stories.
Now I have an interest a sea of new content has opened up to me and I can’t wait for the box to arrive. Now that GW are no longer seeing as much hate and rage comments, now GW are more open to the community and now that the rules don’t seem so impenetrable I am looking forward to this game more and more.
Vague but mostly interesting
I’ve been out of 40K for 20 year so sadly most of that went over my head. I’m confused that they insist they have moved the story along when its still mankinds hopeless last stand vs chaos. Nothing has really changed.
