Space Marines Pre-Orders Dropping Into Warhammer 40K This Week

Games Workshop are lining up new pre-orders for the Space Marines of Warhammer 40,000 this weekend. The second 11th Edition Codex will be dropping alongside a host of long-awaited miniatures for your Adeptus Astartes.

We start with the new Codex, which will be available in its now-standard softback format inside of its slipcase. There is also the Collector's Edition of the Space Marine Codex, which comes in hardback with gold foil details, printed page edges and a ribbon page marker. All versions of the Codex will come with the same details within, covering your different units plus an in-depth look at the workings of a Space Marine Fortress Monastery, giving you another window into the life of a power-armoured, psycho-indoctrinated killing machine.

The same goes for the interior of the Limited Edition Codex which we saw previewed last week.

It's safe to say that both the Collector's Edition and Limited Edition are going to be available only whilst stocks last, so if you'd like one, you'll want to be quick off the starting line on Saturday morning. Just tell the kids they can spend an extra few hours in bed whilst you hover over the store page.

Last of the bits and bobs that you can use for gameplay is the new Command Pack and a set of themed Space Marine dice.

The Command Pack is the new reference set for those diving into Warhammer 40,000. There are ninety-four cards in the pack that cover your Detachment rules, Enhancements and Stratagems. You'll also find a set of twenty-four double-sided tokens that track your Combat Doctrines, special rules and secured objectives.

The Dice are finished with a Crux Terminatus on the six face, so you'll always be able to tell who the Emperor is truly protecting on the battlefield. Once again, these are going to be available whilst stocks last. The Command Packs would be nice to have as a permanent fixture of the line-up but they aren't integral to gameplay, so it's not a big issue if you miss out.

It's not just the books coming out on Saturday. You will also be able to pre-order a set of new miniatures for your Space Marines armies.

Space Marine Captain on Bike // Warhammer 40,000

Finally, after years of asking, the Space Marine Captain can now be sat on the back of a bike! White Scars players can now rejoice that they can get their hands on a Captain miniature that should be easy to slot into their collection. No walking around on foot for your leaders this time!

He can be armed with a master crafted power weapon, thunder hammer or plasma pistol and has access to five head options. Two of them are helmeted and three are unhelmeted.

This Space Marine Captain can then lead a set of the revamped Outriders.

Outrider Squad // Warhammer 40,000

It's been a while since the Outriders originally came out and they were due for a bit of a refresh, even if it's not an extensive one. This will do for those crafting their high-speed armies, featuring a selection of different options for your riders when it comes to heads, alongside all sorts of different accessories. The Sergeant also gets to choose from a power sword or a thunder hammer. Embracing the kitbashing and converting side of the hobby and you could have some fun with these.

Sticking with speed but from a more elite angle, we have the new multi-part plastic kit for your Vanguard Veterans with Jump Packs.

This set expands the options for your Vanguard Veterans. You can kit them out with combat shields, power swords and power axes. The Sergeant gets their relic blade, which can also be swapped out for a power fist or thunder hammer. A good set of options for both mincing infantry and laying the smackdown on lightly armoured vehicles.

The humble Intercessor Squad also gets a new kit, forming the backbone of your Space Marine force on the tabletop.

This updates the Intercessors with customisable, multi-part miniatures alongside thirteen different helmet designs which cross between three different marks. The Sergeant will also claim back his back banner from the annals of history and can be kitted out with a power sword or power fist in place of his chainsword.

It's just missing a dude with a flamer and another with a missile launcher and it's a classic Tactical Squad. Get converting and kitbashing, folks!

The last of the miniatures for the first pre-order window is a character in the form of Kaius Konorius.

More Ultramarine love, it seems. He has fought alongside Marneus Calgar and Chaplain Cassius and is now the personal champion of the Chapter Master. He has turned into a good killer of characters but he can also scythe his way through a horde of enemies should the need arise.

He doesn't look particularly special to be and could easily just be another member amongst the Victrix Honour Guard. It feels like this Codex release for 11th could have been a good chance to release a character for the likes of the White Scars, especially since they're getting new Outriders. Ah well.

All of these miniatures will be coming up for pre-order alongside individual releases for Armageddon units that were in the launch box. You'll be able to get The Champions of Armageddon, Eradicators with Heavy Bolters and the Landspeeder.
