I’ve built William de Warenne from the Wargames Atlantic command set. I’ve also decided that my command group should be armed with maces rather than swords, so William has a lovely spiked mace to allow him to cave in the heads of his enemies. He’s also got a larger heater shield for that added bit of protection.

Painting wise, I’ve tried using my Pro Acrylic Golden Yellow for the first time to see how it works. I’ve started with a light brown base coat and then created a light brown/golden yellow mix to start building up the highlight. A straight golden yellow went on the raised areas before finally a golden yellow/white mix for the highlights. Overall, I’m quite impressed with the Pro Acylic paint, it definitely has good coverage and flows well.

For the blue, I’ve used a Vallejo mecha dark blue as the base and then mixed in firstly Vallejo ultramarine blue and then andrea blue. Each layer was watered down to create more of a glaze to gradually build up.

The armour is gunmetal and then given a very heave nuln oil wash. Highlighted with some polished metal. The leather was a red leather given a strong tone wash before a scrofulous brown highlight. I’ve picked out some of the helmet detail with a shiny bronze just to make William stand out a bit more on the battlefield.

Once painted, I’ve used a Little Big Man transfer on the shield to really set it off. First time using LBM and not used to the sticky transfers, but went on fine as long as you line it up well first.

The base was a wet mud acrylic paste covered in tufts from Gamers Grass.
