Hobby Pledges 2026

Today is the end of Q1 of 2026.  Where did all that time go?!?  I’m checking in with this month’s total which is 71 or equivalent completed.  That takes the annual total to 275/365.   Only 90 to go and I should be through those by early May if I can keep this rate up.

Recent completions included plenty of things for Warriors of Athena.  Typically though I’ve distracted myself with Argonauts and still don’t have enough painted stuff to play the first scenario 😀  My Harryhausen giant cyclops also won the March PaintComp. Do join in with the fun there.  There is a new theme word each month which we do not take at all seriously.  It is a great excuse to get something all covered in paint.  Finally for this month I’ve also started my Spring Clean Challenge which will be a Dogs of War army featuring many Regiments of Renown.  It’s a huge task, over 150 miniatures to complete between now and the summer solstice.

In the first 3 months of the year I have made a reasonable start with my aims and actually managed to finish one and get the Vikings completed.

I’ve changed my pledge a few times and in March I made Marvel Crisis Protocol my focus.

Over the last few weeks I’ve built tiles… bought, assembled and primed the X-Men starter… bought, assembled and started painting the NYC Block terrain pack.

Today I couldn’t focus on the hobby, so I didn’t. Perhaps it’s because I’m at the tedious part of terrain painting (windows are not fun) and the daunting prospect of painting the miniatures, but I’m pleased with my progress so far.

The end of April has arrived and we are a third of the way through the year.  I’m plugging away with my Spring Clean Challenge Dogs of War and am about half way through.  Good progress there has helped me to pass my minimum annual output requirement of 365 minis already.  I’m at 383/365.  That is the soonest in the year I’ve managed to reach that pledge so I’m very pleased.  Here’s the most recent miniature completed, The Green Knight:

End of May update is another 81 to the total which sits at 465/365 for this year.  As well as a miniature for the monthly PaintComp I also got some statues done for Warriors of Athena and the two large units done for the SCC.  I also finished a secret extra miniature for that project.  She’s big and green.  Not posted the full update yet but here is a sneak preview:

We’re at the half way point of 2026.  Time to look at those pledges.  How’s everyone getting on?  I hope we are all having fun.  That is the point of hobby after all.

So far I’m at 511/365 for the year and managed to get my SCC Dogs of War finished, including an army book and a Midgard battle report if anyone wants to see either of those.

My most recent painting has been a game in a box, 8mm miniatures and terrain with tape measure and dice all in one tin from Space Denizens.  Cute 🙂

Well… I did things. Some ‘nids, some RUBs. Some Fallout minis, some SW:Legion minis. An owlbear. A few paint comps. Dreamscape Collision, Bumblebee and the Giant Space Hamster. Roughly 100 minis. Not to bad.

So far this year the following are done

15mm Sci-fi army

All the vehicles for my small Desert Rats are done, just a few guys to paint. Managed to get a bunch of the Germans and US infantry painted.

Completed one of the Chariots for the Celt army in 28mm. I’ve also made a start on the 15mm pirates, which includes the two sloops. Painted all the vehicles from the Dunkirk FoW set and made a start on the infantry. Finished the elephants for the Carthage army in Warlord Epic scale.

I’ve also virtually finished all the vehicles for Gaslands. I’ve just a few more to do, and then it’s on to scenery/terrain. Talking of terrain I managed get a ton of scatter pieces painted along with some buildings in variety of scales that inclues 15, 20 and 28mm.

I also painted a few fantasy mimis, including a 15mm dragon. I also painted one unit and a hero character for the Cathay Army.

So overall it’s been a fairly productive 6 months, which included going on holiday for 3 weeks.

Well half way through the year and while I have not met anymore of my objectives I have at least more than half way through the Normans Norman foot, also managed to complete a Napoleonic infantry battalion with the Anhalt Battalion from the Confederation of the Rhine Anhalt Battalion – Confederation of the Rhine. Also managed to finish the last of the elephants for my Carthaginians Carthaginian Elephants

I vanished for a bit there (8 months-ish!  Oops!).  I have been hobbying though, and it’s good to see I’m not the only one.

Lets have a look at my progress.

• I’ve currently painted 4 more models than I’ve gained (115 vs 101) despite a big box arriving, and no more minis are expected until the end of the year I think?  KDM will get some of my money on Black Friday, and I think they try ans ship something preordered in time for Christmas.
• I’ve painted every last non-modular gaming piece, although I’ve just been told the Screaming God armour sets might not be modular as I’d thought.  I’ll check this weekend.
• I finished a campaign of Kingdom Death.  I cannot beat the Level 2 Death King.  Turns out I’ve been playing KDM with the wrong mindset all along.  I completed 3 campaigns with 4 DPS characters and burning down the monsters before they could kill me.  This does not work on Node 4 monsters.  Apparently I’m supposed to have 1 tank, and maybe 1 support, and might have just gotten lucky.  I plan on starting a new campaign and trying to figure out how this play, and how to spec for it.
• I have allowed time for other hobbies.  I’ve lost 600+ hours to Satisfactory on the PC over 2 playthroughs, and could easily start a 3rd playthrough.  That game pushes my buttons just right.  I have also played Doki Doki Literature Club.  This game is not just art, but Art with a capital A.  Play it.  Drop everything and play it.  It is not what it looks like.  Even once it changes, it is still not what it looks like.  It is unique and beautiful.  I’ve had computer games get me excited, nervous, or anxious, but this is the only game to make me cry.  Not just cry, but still be crying 2 months later when playing the music or watching A Therapist Plays DDLC on Youtube.  This is a very special game.  It only takes around 5 hours for your first playthrough too, and it’s free.  Stick with it.  It’s easy to dismiss it for the first few hours.  I quit at one point, but I knew what was coming so googled how far out I was from things evolving and went back to it.  Don’t look things up if you don’t already know.  Play it alone, so your thoughts and feelings are all your own.  Pay attention.  Or don’t and enjoy the surprises, but do on a second playthrough.  It is masterfully crafted and uses it’s art style and genre against you.
  DDLC is free on steam and other places.  DDLC+ costs.  It contains the whole original game (Minus a few small items), and extra content and was written to make it work on consoles, and the original was very Windows oriented (*Hint Hint*), and those few elements don’t connect as well under +.  It changes the way aspects of the game work though.  I would recommend DDLC for the first playthrough, and DDLC+ for any followup plays to see the stuff you missed and new content.  DDLC+ was given away free on the Epic store a while back so you may already own it.

I am currently trying my hand at a bust or two (from last years pledge), and painting up some modular minis.  If I can keep on top of any deliveries that arrive, and play a whole KDM campaign and the few mini campaigns I have I shouldn’t have too much trouble hitting my goals this year.  I’m going to take it easy for a bit, and split my time more between solo playing and painting.

Well done @lawnor Lots of painting and gaming achieved which is what we are all here for.

As September has started we are officially at the 3/4 point of the year.  I’ve been busy starting Kings of War as many of you will have been reading.  Links are on my project.  Drop me a comment if you have been reading it.

I’m at 735/365 miniatures painted for the year.  That’s the most I’ve ever done in a single year but that is probably down to having time on my hands and being enthused by my Spring Clean Challenge and KoW projects, both of which are large rank and flank armies.

So how’s 2026 going?

Five massive boxes of GW sold, two more tendered to two shops today:

I had intended to keep the Eldar at the very least (plus my beloved Orks),  but a week and a half ago my dog got seriously ill. $2000+ in vet bills, when I have vacations booked, hit hard.
