Games Workshop revealed that the pre-orders for the new edition of Necr...sorry, Warhammer Skirmish: Necromunda, are going to be available for you to snap up this weekend from them or your friendly local gaming store/online retailer. A new Core Set and more are on the way.

New Core Set - Necromunda

New Core Set // Necromunda

The new Core Set leads the way as an introductory starting point for those intrigued by the idea of diving into Necromunda. At the heart of the new sets are the two new sets of plastic miniatures representing House Goliath and House Escher.

What's nice about the new Goliaths and Eschers is that they're not the same as those available in the initial re-launch of the game and in the various gang boxes. That means that as well as being good for someone starting out, they are also helpful for existing players who want new weapon options, kitbashing options and conversion opportunities for their existing gangs.

It also seems like the two gangs presented above are named, so much like with the Underhive box from 2017, this will give you a good set of miniatures to start playing with if you build them to the specifications in the box. Two pre-set gangs that you can dive into games with without too much thought.

There is, of course, no reason why you can't just do your own thing and do whatever you like with the miniatures in the box!

The Core Set also comes with the full, new Core Rulebook, the set of Gang Tactics and Campaign Scenario cards, a Starter Guide, fifty-four Condition and Status Markers, a range ruler (akin to the Middle-earth one!), dice, templates and more. A good starting point for someone diving into the new edition.

Zone Mortalis Factoria Pipes - Necromunda

Oh, and you also get the pipes. The incredibly meme-tastic pipes (also available separately). As someone who is loving Necromunda at the moment, I am very intrigued to see where Games Workshop has gone with the new edition. Curiosity killed the Cawdor...

New Books and Cards

If you are an existing player and just want the books, you can also buy them separately.

New Necromunda Books - Necromunda

New Necromunda Books // Necromunda

All existing miniatures are compatible with the new edition, and you'll find all of the rules for using them as part of three new tomes. The Core Rulebook will do what it says on the tin. No surprises there.

The Gang Books then give you all of the specific rules for the Gangs of the Underhive and the Gangs of the Outlands. Inside Gangs of the Underhive you'll find...

  • House Cawdor, Delaque, Escher, Goliath, Orlock, Van Saar, Palanite Enforcers, Venator Gangs and Corpse Grinder Cults
  • ...plus, Justicar Courts, Hired Guns, Brutes, Hangers-on and Pets

If you're more wild and wacky, you'll want Gangs of the Outlands...

  • Outcast Gangs, Free Ogryn Gangs, Genestealer Cults, Genestealer Corrupted Gangs, Chaos Helot Cults, Chaos Corrupted Gangs, Malstrain and Malstrain Corrupted Gangs, Spyre Hunting Parties, Ironhead Squart Prospectors and Ash Waste Nomad Gangs
  • ...plus, Hired Guns, Brutes, Hangers-on and Pets

It's good that Games Workshop has clarified what's going to be in each book, so you know where you stand and which books you need to pick up. You also have the new Card Decks available separately.

New Necromunda Cards - Necromunda

Core Gang Tactics Cards give you what you need for sneaky ways for you to upset the plans of your opponent. You get eighteen Tactics Cards which are usable by most of the factions plus blank Fighter Cards so you can keep track of your gangers.

The Campaign and Scenario Card Pack is what I am most interested in. It comes with ways to help you run your narrative campaigns with twenty-two Territory cards and twenty-four Scenario cards plus six rules reference cards. I would imagine that this will work similarly to the new campaign deck for Warhammer 40,000, helping to clean up some of the busy work you find when starting a campaign in Necromunda. Having just dove into a campaign myself, I am interested in what this offers for newcomers and veterans alike.

Oh, and the Conditions & Status Markers will also be available separately if you need those for your games!

These tokens are now in plastic and are double-sided with symbols to help you keep track of various status effects and activations taking place in-game. Always handy for both you and your opponent.

Underhive Crew Boxes

If this new edition has also got you excited about the idea of diving into Necromunda, a bunch of Underhive Crew Boxes are also available for you to pre-order this weekend.

Each of these Underhive Crew sets focuses on the great Houses of Necromunda with a whole bunch of great plastic miniatures. You'll get between sixteen and twenty miniatures per box alongside their specialists AND the House-specific weapons and upgrade set. A good way for you to get everything you need to play a gang in Necromunda with all of the glorious kitbashing opportunities.

All of this will be up for pre-order on Saturday morning and by all accounts, a lot of it is quite reasonably priced. From some of the chatter online, the Core Set should be around £100 (so even cheaper via friendly local gaming stores) and the books aren't going to punish your wallet too much either. So, a good chance for you to dive into Necromunda for the first time?

Are you going to wait for the reviews and such next week before you take the plunge?
