Draconis Does… Battletech

About the Project
I have a number of different projects on the go or upcoming, one of which involves getting some Battletech minis ready for hopefully playing the Battletech Aces Scouring Sands Alpha Strike cooperative campaign. It’s been a great many years since I last played Batteltech, and that was using the more detailed Classic rules. However, the idea of a cooperative campaign is what drew me back. The Scouring Sands box contains the enemy mechs required, so I will start out with them. In the Alpha Strike box there a some more mechs… but I may have to buy some other packs perhaps once I decide on which mechs I want to run for the player side.

Test model - Howler
3rd April 2026
Started on the smallest mech, the Howler.
I added black panels, picked out joints etc in metal then gave both elements a wash and highlight.
Painted the canopy white then washed over in a yellow/orange and gave it a gloss varnish.
I may try to find some small transfers that I can apply to the black chest panel.
Getting things underway
2nd April 2026
I started out with the enemy faction from the Scouring Sands box. Since these represent Clan Jade Falcon there was just limited dithering deciding on a green shade. I purchased a new can of Salamander Green (Colour Forge).
The minis were washed in warm soapy water to clean off any mould release and then given a minor clean up. This was followed by being primed black, then over sprayed in the Salamander Green.
I then tested a few washes, in the end some had a dark wash and the majority a green wash. This was followed up by several dry brush stages working through pure Warpstone glow, a mix with Moot green, through to pure Moot green for the final lightest dry brush stage.
Next up I will be adding black panels, picking out weapons and joints etc, and adding canopies. Then trying to paint on some logos perhaps….
