PWork Unleash The Hunters On Altar Of The Dead Gods

June 3, 2026 by brennon

PWork Wargames has introduced some great new miniatures into the mix for the skirmish game, Altar of the Dead Gods. If you're looking to dive into some fantastical horror skirmish wargaming, this is definitely worth diving into!

Hunters - Sharpshooter & Lure Expert - Altar of the Dead Gods

Sharpshooter & Lure Expert // Altar of the Dead Gods

The Hunters are veterans who have witnessed what lies deep within the darkness of the Buried Temple and have chosen to hunt it and kill it rather than flee. They are armed with steel, black powder, traps, blessed amulets and more. They are also keen to hunt whatever you can pay for, be it a dangerous beast or a terrifying cult leader.

One such set of miniatures for the Hunters includes the Sharpshooter and the Lure Expert. The Sharpshooter is a deadly ranged fighter who can eliminate weaker enemies quickly or cause serious damage to a towering, monstrous foe. The set also comes with the Lure Expert, who has a special ability which allows him to bring the enemy to exactly where you need, ready to be taken out by his companions.

Another specialist comes in the form of the Huntmaster and their loyal Hound.

This set introduces another specialist into the mix for the Hunters. The Huntmaster is a close-combat specialist who can cut through enemies very quickly thanks to their dual blades. The Hound then works as a fast, strategic unit that can sniff out Relics for you to claim. It also helps that it's a big, burly Hound that can cause some damage in close combat, too.

They can also be used alongside the Warband Starter Set for the Hunters, which gives you a great set of figures for wandering the Buried Temple and beyond.

This set gives a great starter list for using in your games of Altar of the Dead Gods. You've got a Big Game Hunter, two Trappers, one Lure Expert, one Sharpshooter, two Hounds and then all of the bases you'll need. It should be noted that the miniatures are all in resin and come in at 32mm in scale.

I don't think that it's an accident that these miniatures have a style very close to the main characters from Brotherhood of the Wolf. I could see all of these folks fighting in the pouring rain, battling against some bandits before they go on to hunt down some terrible creature.

If you want to start playing the game but you don't want to paint the miniatures, PWork Wargames also produce a set of Warband Tokens for Altar of the Dead Gods so you can dive in and start playing quickly!

This gives you all of the miniatures you'll need for your games, alongside bases and the facing markers to help. You could paint them if you liked, since they do have some details burned in. All of the warbands from Altar of the Dead Gods have a token-based set for you to choose from if you want to explore the game using a different medium.

New Expansion

If you'd like to take your games even further, there is also a new expansion for Altar of the Dead Gods, Moonlight.

Moonlight - Altar of the Dead Gods

Moonlight // Altar of the Dead Gods

Moonlight comes with three brand-new missions for you to dive into, a new territory featuring twisted paths through thorny brambles and a grim altar that harks back to a secret ritual. You'll also find new advanced rules, new threats and new battlefield conditions that change up how you play the game. There are also rules for the Moonmarked, a new warrior and dark mercenary who any faction in Altar of the Dead Gods can use.

If you'd like to see the game being played, we did a great Let's Play using the Pilgrims of the Church and the Vampires from the initial release.

The game does have some neat twists to it that make it a fun skirmish game to sink your teeth into. It's very easy to learn and the fact that it all plays out in such a small space means that you can have a lot of fun without breaking the bank.

Are you going to be picking up this new faction for Altar of the Dead Gods?
