WiP Games & Miniatures Update 28mm Sea Peoples Range

WiP Games and Miniatures introduced some new 28mm scale figures to their collection for those looking to raid the Bronze Age. Their Sea Peoples collection has expanded a little bit, with more miniatures for those armies that made up the tribes of the Late Bronze Age.

The Sea Peoples is an all-encompassing term for those who raided Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean. One such people were the Sherden, who were known for their Sherden sword, based on the European daggers of the time. There are two sets of the Sherden for you to pick from, complete with their corslets and kilts as well as their distinctive horned helmets, which feature prominently in art of the period.

As well as the Sherden, you can also pick up some packs of "Sea Peoples", which could represent all manner of different tribes.

The Sea Peoples could apply to tribes like the Denyen, Eqwesh, Karkisha, Lukka, Peleset, Shekelesh, Teresh, Tjekker, Weshesh and the aforementioned Sherden.

A primary foe for you to consider pitting them against would be the Egyptians, as there are records of the Sea Peoples battling against Ramesses II. For example, there was the Battle of the Delta, where Ramesses had to defeat an incursion by the Sherden. The Sea Peoples moniker seems to have stuck thanks to this evidence from Egyptian sources, appearing on their warships with tactics that were unknown to their enemies, therefore making them hard to fight against.

It does seem like the phrase Sea Peoples might not be entirely accurate now, as it seems to be that most modern Historians think these tribes travelled and raided by land. Still, it works as a good term to cover the various tribes that were raiding the notable giants of the Mediterranean world during this Ancient time.

This also means that you can now pick up plenty of figures to use with WiP Games and Miniatures' On Bloody Ground rules for The New Kingdom!
