Community Spotlight: Cave Dwellers, Rules Writers, & Chosen Men!
September 9, 2026 by avernos
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We'll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Kingdom Death, Sorted By Monster & Armour Type by Lawnor
First this week we're going to catch up with Lawnor and his ongoing campaign to paint all of Kingdom Death: Monster that exists, and he's not been hanging around, even if his miniatures are!
Unlike other character sets from KD:M that are defined by the style of their armour the heroes this time around all have very distinctive looks, but are all tied together by virtue of the fact they're hanging upside down as you can see here via the medium of magnets.
The fact that the archer is strapped down while the swordswoman and spear user are swinging around like a lethal version of gladiators gives them so much movement. It's a fantastic concept and I love the way Lawnor has turned them out.
Of course they are up there for a reason and in this case it's because the Pariah has gone rogue leading the survivors to pursue him into the Inverted Mountain. This is just such an unusual set of miniatures and reminds me of Pratchett's Wyrmberg where Rincewind has to fight upside down on the ceiling hanging from rings very much like the heroes will have to attempt. I wonder if he's going to have a magnetised inverted board to play this section of the campaign out?
Rules of Engagement by Graystoak
Next up, Graystoak answers the question: What happens when a designer can’t find quite the game they want to play? In the case of Rules of Engagement, the answer was to build one from the ground up — a near-future skirmish game designed to work with any miniatures range and a relatively small force.
One of the most interesting ideas at the heart of Rules of Engagement is its Order system. Every model contributes to your pool, but spending those orders wisely is where the real decisions lie. Do you push one crucial soldier to do more, or spread your resources across the force?
The Project follows the journey through playtesting, showing how games, feedback and experimentation have helped shape Rules of Engagement into the system it is today. But Graystoak is always looking for more feedback and because text looks dull, he's taken a leaf out of Warren's book and filled it with art from Midjourney to engage readers in the rules of the rules of engagement!
Don't worry, though there's plenty of text, tables and maths to digest along with his three PDFs if you fancy getting involved. The current plan is to break his list building as brutally as possibly. So alphastrikers and cheesemongers get in there!
Sharpe’s Rifles by scribbs
Last for this week are some more members of the 95th joining Davy Sharpe in his goal to be the biggest bahstad! in the Napoleonic wars.
Every good officer needs someone who can understand books and the like, especially when they're in foreign languages, which appears to be the case more often than not when fighting on the continent! Enter rifleman Harris. Scribbs has nailed the look of Harris on this large 54mm figure. Just looks like Jason, and the highlighting is more subtle than you would see on a 28mm.
Speaking of 28mm you have got to hand it to scribbs for the work on Harper. Not only does Patrick look spot on to Darragh, but then the photography with the forced perspective of 15mm minis behind him and the backdrop just sells the whole shot. Now that's modelling!
Back to the big stuff and Harper again with the collector's 54mm just shows once again how easily scribbs can flip between the scales. The expression of the sculpt has been captured beautifully with his painting and the scruffy unkempt look of this particular Chosen Man is spot on. I'm still hoping for some mad 54mm battle report someday. Maybe scribbs will be the one to give it to me.
What Are You Painting Right Now?
Every week, we’re absolutely blown away by the incredible topics that are put into the Projects; it’s getting more difficult to choose Community Spotlights! We love your work and we hope to see a lot more of it in the future!
If you fancy getting your hobby fingers out and showing off your newest paint job, terrain piece or even greatest gaming achievement, we want to know about it! We don’t mind if you’re a newcomer to painting or a veteran of the brush, everything you do inspires us to create more and more content together!
What do you think of the entries this week?

Thank you for the Button, the kind words and the coverage! I’m constantly tinkering with the ROE rules so any feedback would be hugely appreciated. I’m updating movement at the moment to make it more intuitive for multi level tables.
Well done to the other Button Winners. I was enjoying reading the Kingdom Death project just the other day!
B*st*rds! XD
