Yesterday I was invited in a professional capacity thanks to my day job in museums to the Nottingham university manuscript archives. This was organised by a chap looking at doing some projects around using games as educational tools. This is something I had done with my cheese riot game. Also how the Internet works with content creators. Also present was Peachy of peachy tips fame and Jordans Sorcery. Both a nice couple of chaps to talk to during the morning about the history of gaming and how their channels work. And some nice chats about common interests such as the zulu war and Sharpe. The team at the uni had laid out lots of historical games for us to look at dating back in some cases to the 18th century. Most made by map making firms and designed to teach people about foreign places or kingsYesterday I was invited in a professional capacity thanks to my day job in museums to the Nottingham university manuscript archives. Because I work in a museum specialising in crime I was given the book of executions which contained records of everyone on trial in Nottingham in the 19th century. A great resource for me. Because we had interest in historic wargaming they also had on display A letter from Napoleon and Wellington during the peninsula war. My favourite 18th century travel game gave facts about each location you end up in. Apparently Minorca has one of the best harbours in the universe. Bold claim. One thing that interested people is how you move around the boards. Round boards seemed very popular with players heading to the centre of the board. I guessed that might be because people had round card or gaming tables. We ended the day with something to eat in the nearby Bugmans at Warhammer world.Because I work in a museum specialising in crime I was given the book of executions which contained records of everyone on trial in Nottingham in the 19th century.
