Just curious if anybody is taking part in the Starfall campaign. If so, what are your thoughts? also do you like the new Outbreak book?
Bit disappointed with the Outbreak book, it forms an errata and army listing book and not a lot else. Compared to the excellent Nexus Psi book that had a bit of everything (including a narrative campaign) it was a bit of a let down. I was expecting a narrative campaign in Outbreak as well, but if you are into your tourneys then Outbreak becomes an essential purchase.
…however if you haven’t got Nexus Psi (or Infestation), get these instead (even tho the army lists are already out of date) 🙂
I do prefer the stance Warlord took with Gate of Antaries. Release the campaign books, add new units and rules etc, but the “pure” army list parts are available for free as a PDF as a “living” army list. This way you are not buying the almost same content again and again. I wish most companies would take this stance rather than using the outmoded “codex” model that leaves you with a lot of useless stuff on your bookshelf. Army points are subject to change, but the background fluff is eternal 🙂
you have to remember @phaidknott that Outbreak is not a stand alone book, and was written to be used in conjuction with the ongoing campaign on the website, so rather than being able to read and see the campaign from start to end more narrative was and is being added on a weekly basis.
Interestingly what you’re talking about for warlords gates campaign books is exactly what Mantic do with the Clash of Kings annuals, balance changes, new artifacts and units.
@jax78 I’ve been enjoying the campaign, but unfortunately with life getting in the way I’ve not been as involved as I wanted to be. If you’ve not been following it you should check out the website. Some great bat reps and the unfolding story across the planet has been a lot of fun.
I get where you are coming from @phaidknott Would have been nice for some extra fluff in Outbreak. I think the Starfall campaign does compensate a little but unfortunately it’s a little to brief. I’m only just getting into Deadzone but before I get to grips with it properly it will be over.
@avernos Yes I’ve been taking a look at the website looks great. It’s one of the things that made me jump on board, that and having a faction good to go as I backed Star Saga. A massive shame for me is that the wave 2, for the Star Saga campaign is so late. Unfortunately I will not get the chance to run a Nameless team before the campaign ends.
Oh well still love the game and hope to get lots more plays in.
