Pledge: Build the TT Combat terrain for my supers game and MCP.
Apart from eyesight, nothing really affecting hobby.
Hadn’t noticed the wayland sales pitch under photos. I do shop there, but they often don’t have what I want in stock and they are not always the cheapest online source for me. “Other online stores are available.”
September 8, 2026 at 7:29 pm #1984607This week’s pledge is to do some shopping. I’m now completely out of models!
Thanks @zoidpinhead I particularly liked the outcome with the cyclops too.
- We’re all getting older and our bodies decay. Aside from bad eyesight and hearing what is you body not letting you do any more that you loved to do in regards to the hobby? – I’ve not hit any problems yet (I’m 41) but they’ll kick in soon. I’m finding I have more typos when I write messages on my phone. I may need to increase the button size soon. I also struggle to read messages when I first wake up. My eyes need at least ten minutes to start focussing properly.
September 8, 2026 at 7:35 pm #1984608‘Guns Akimbo’ was a surprisingly fun movie with that Harry Potter dude.
And the new ‘Masters of the Universe’ was kind of fun too, although they could have added a lot more cheese to it if they had wanted to.
September 8, 2026 at 7:56 pm #1984609I’m now completely out of models!
@danlee What does that even mean?!? I obviously understand the intended meaning in English of those words in that order, but…?!? You can’t actually be out of models!
I’ve been in this hobby for as long as I can remember and I don’t think I’ve ever actually run out of miniatures to paint. Well done you though. Try not to run out of models again please 😀
September 8, 2026 at 8:55 pm #1984610I can’t imagine being completely out of models. Does it feel the same as running out of milk or toilet paper?
I have some models that, if I am honest with myself, I never intend to paint. They just came with something I really liked or turned out not to be what I envisaged. I should get rid if those. And if I reduced the pile noticeably I would reward myself with buying more.
Now I am imagining what the strategy would be if one did get to zero unpainted minis. Buy a few and keep it under control, buy a complete army/project, go on a shopping spree and buy anything that took your fancy (fill the cupboard), or organise scheduleddeliveries so it never happens again?
Amazed with your discipline. Well done.

I hate to say it but that’s the age when age related short sightedness starts popping up. If you can, get your eyes checked and see if you can make yourself comfortable with bifocal lenses. The earlier you train your eyes to have a “reading section” in your glasses the easier it is. Trust me, I was there XD
September 8, 2026 at 11:19 pm #1984613@sundancer I never could used to bifocals; I have a pair of “computer range” glasses, but for painting it’s no glasses. A real pain, thinking of getting loupes for my glasses this year.
September 9, 2026 at 1:03 am #1984614Enshitification of services continues : MS just put time limits on their ‘cloud services’.
I guess they noticed that too few people were buying games, because why pay for a disc when you can complete the game in a month or less ?
Even if you pay the maximum you only get 15 hours every month … (10 hours for the ‘standard’ and 5 hours for the basic subscription)
/rantIt also reminded me that I haven’t been playing any actual games recently, because the available games were sh!te.
I already downgraded when the previous price increase hit, because content had been degrading.
Time to cancel for real now ? Need a think.
More money for tabletop hobbies I guess.September 9, 2026 at 6:10 am #1984618MS just put time limits on their ‘cloud services’.
“You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy” – gets more true every day. That’s why I won’t buy video games that don’t offer me a) a physical copy or b) a DRM free download. Subscription models for software, video and games are a trap.
September 9, 2026 at 12:59 pm #1984688yeah … GoG.com for the win. If I ever buy ‘new’ games it’s on that platform, because you do get proper backups.
I haven’t got anything on Steam for a long while now.//
And speaking of consumer friendly companies:
I got a gift card from Wargames Atlantic for paying VAT as part of the Damned campaign.
It isn’t exactly ‘free money’ but it is still nice to see companies do something that gets me more plastic for my money.// — edit —
Back to videogames for a bit.
No Man’s Skies recent update really drives home how awful other games in that genre have been.
Free upgrades over a decade … and not exactly tiny updates either.
I really need to go back and see what has changed, because I kind of liked it when it was released.
It also shows how awful Starfield : loading screen edition has been.-

September 10, 2026 at 6:47 am #1984715PS next gen going full digital is a… choice. A bad one. I have a PS5 with disc, and honestly I use it more for bluray than gaming. Gaming is shit nowadays. It really is. I hate subs, playing online; I still enjoy my Xbox with CoD for solo play.
I am a Mac person for computer use – no gaming there; the release today of the obscenely priced folding iPhone makes me want to vomit with shame for being a diehard Mac person since 1993. I’ll probably just keep my 16 and go to one of the new international plans being offered as I travel enough to make it worthwhile.
September 10, 2026 at 6:53 am #1984716Most modern console I currently play on is the Switch. Got it used recently and I’m quite enjoying “Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle” It’s Mario with silly Rabbids (from Rayman) playing like a mix of Mario World and “XCOM: Enemy Unknown”. And the game is on a cartridge.
The PS4 gets used as media player and “The SIMS” machine for the daughter. Never bothered with the PS5. Too expensive and the games not really a selling point as they appear on PC most of the time anyway
September 10, 2026 at 10:19 am #1984739yeah … my main reason for not buying a ‘next-gen’ Xbox or PS5 was that I saw zero new games getting released for either platform. At best it was boring sequel after sequel. I guess MS noticed this as well which is why they’re killing off their cloud-games now that it was finally starting to become a viable means of playing games.
The Playstation VR headset was the only mildly interesting bit … and I honestly don’t know if the PS5 even got a VR game to go with the new version.
I remember ‘The Sims’ being a lot of fun in that first edition. Such a shame that EA ruined the series by making it impossible to mod. Instead you had to buy all the stuff you wanted (or that used to be a feature).

I had to try the new NMS … and it does look good on my pc. Not that I needed yet another distraction from my hobby 😉-

September 11, 2026 at 6:56 am #1984757Ironically my PS5 is just a fancy Blu-ray player. I have a few physical game discs, I hate them all.
