About the Project

A place for all the models that don't fit into any particular project. Expect a range of different genres and companies, often painted for no real purpose other than to just have some fun and to act as a palette cleanser to break up work on other things.

I recently returned to my handful of unpainted Wiglaf Miniatures, splitting them into a two rough groups and picking a trio of different colours to act as a unifying scheme for each.

As mentioned before, these are very nice 18mm sculpts, very easy to paint, just the right amount of detail without becoming cluttered.

I had a bit of fun with the very oversized flags. The designs are based on illustrations from the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript dating from ca.800 AD. That’s about 150-200 years after the era these models depict, but made in a Columban monastery in either Scotland or Ireland. The Columban monks spread from Iona around to the North of England, so I figured that the images were appropriate if not necessarily contemporary.

I got these figures finished just as a book of photo backdrops arrived in the post. Made by Jon Hodgson, these backdrops are fantastic, well worth checking out. Books are available to buy via Bad Squiddo games.

Another Burrows & Badgers figure. Really quite a simple sculpt, but a good model to break out the tartan paint on.Another Burrows & Badgers figure. Really quite a simple sculpt, but a good model to break out the tartan paint on.

As per usual for this project, a little palette cleanser after working through quite a few historical figures. Again, I grabbed a Burrows & Badgers model, a cat huntress. I had settled on a colour scheme for the dress a while ago after watching The English on TV, but there's been a fair lag between getting that inspiration and putting it into practice. As per usual for this project, a little palette cleanser after working through quite a few historical figures. Took a little break from Outremer to paint this little tengu/kenku/bird folk rogue. Whilst it wouldn't be too far out of place in Burrows & Badgers, this figure is from Oathsworn Miniatures other range, Sensible Shoes, which has a nice selection of realistic fantasy heroines. The intention is to use this figure as a Preen in Five Leagues from the Borderlands.Took a little break from Outremer to paint this little tengu/kenku/bird folk rogue. Wiglaf Miniatures

I managed to get hold of a small sample pack of Wiglaf Miniatures. These are really nicely detailed 18mm sculpts by Mark Copplestone, great fun to paint up. Definitely worthy of their shortlisting for Indie of Year 2022, and I’ll probably get some more at a later stage.
