New 28mm Sirmoor Gurkhas Available From Empress Miniatures

Empress Miniatures expanded their range of figures for those building 28mm Gurkha armies recently. Some new figures have been added to their expansive Colonial range, this time specifically designed around the Sirmoor Gurkhas.
Gurkha Command // Empress Miniatures
The Sirmoor battalion served in both the Sikh War and the Indian Mutiny, with a notable clash being at Hindu Dao's house on Delhi Ridge in 1857. They were one of the Indian regiments that remained loyal to the British. For their action during the mutiny, they were presented with the Queen's Truncheon. It is also well worth pointing out that they are the only Gurkha regiment that did not have a khukri on their cap badge.

The weapon that they were believed to have used was a two-grooved, percussion cap fusil or carbine bore (according to Empress Miniatures). Rifles were issued but they didn't appear to have been used beyond training and so they returned to their fusils.

The Sirmoor Gurkhas served in Malaya, Hong Kong and Brunei and beyond until 1994 when they were brought together with the other three British Army Gurkha regiments to form the Royal Gurkha Rifles. It's great to learn a little bit more about the Gurkhas and how they were organised throughout their history.
