About the Project
I have decided to help keep my motivation, to do a weekly update of what I have been doing. This will hopefully stave off the fatigue of the never ending pile of potential, and also reassure me that I am sort of making progress. The project will have a range of miniatures from different genres such as kingdom death monster, burrows and badgers, moonstone, marvel crisis protocol, Star Wars shatterpoint and everything in between. The last count was about 850 miniatures, that need to be painted. Normally they are then stored away but at least they will be completed.

Week 7
This week I went back to some Moonstone miniatures and the Goblins.
All the goblins are now complete and to finish the Faction I just need to finish the Bristlenose and Ribald the trolls.
It may be 6 more models but I should be getting 66 more models from my barons war order delivered this week and I have found a few models I hadn’t remembered about.
Also with Blood Bowl season 3 coming out, that will affect my numbers but probably not until the end of the year.
Week 6
This week I moved away from the Moonstone miniatures as I needed a rest from Moonstone.
I completed the Murderer from KDM and a Necron Doom Scythe from 40K.
A few issues with both models.
The Doom Scythe I am basing it on a scheme I used on a Necron force I painted a few years ago. Also, for some reason I primed it using a brush a few years ago and it wasnt a great job. I also then for some reason decided to do the green before painting the major colour.
For the Murderer I tried a new scheme for the skin tone starting with a more brown base colour. It could have turned out better but it seems to be OK.
I also think I should have gone for a darker tone on the murder victim as I think it now stands out too much.
Not sure why the photos are upside down
Week 5
Still keeping this project going.
A few more things completed this week. Some I am happy with, and some I am not but all are good enough to move on.
First up are the Kingdom Death miniatures. These four are all from the same set of Echoes of Death 4.
The boxer
The archer mage
The novice
- The paladin
I did have a worry when painting this one that I wasn’t following the proper scheme. Also that am not taking into account the lanterns and that as the light source.
However, I remember that they are my miniatures and I can do whatever I want with them.
I do seem to be struggling with the goblin skin so will try a few more and the probably put that project on hold for a while.
Although, next up are El Capitan from moonstone and The murderer from KDM.
I also completed a few more goblins for Moonstone. The Lloyd shots can be found in my other ongoing project about Moonstone.
Mid week update
I reviewed my Outstanding Hobby spreadsheet and realised that there were some mistakes.
I left off a few purchases, and based on those and some outstanding orders I will have close to 900 miniatures needing painting.
Based on my recent progress that means I may catch up by Summer of 2028.
This means that I now have a block on buying any new miniatures(yeah right), the only exception will be any official GW blood bowl teams or star players.
On the plus side I also finished the KDM paladin so that took the number down by one.
Week 4
This is becoming a habit.
I am also starting to make a little headway into the pile of potential. The problem now is I realised I hadnt added two box sets onto my spreadsheet and have bought the recent Burrows and Badgers starter sets as a reward.
Guess I am going to promise myself I will not but anything else – I am sure I will stick to that.
Next up is Portly Pete from Moonstone
I have also started Seasick Stu and the Paladin
Update
Just a quick update with my non-anal spreadsheet of outstanding minis.
Technically it is now less than 700 as I haven’t received the Barons war stuff yet. So that means I am not actually a middle-aged war gamer yet as I haven’t painted or played historical yet.
This list doesn’t contain any Kickstarter I have filed away in the loft or things I have earmarked for practice pieces for relatives to practice on.
Week 3
This is now becoming a habit.
A few more miniatures complete.
Moonstone: Natty the slum thief, Gertrude the faerie hunter, and Kauffman.
Kingdom Death Monster: Bone Eater and the Champion of the Goblin.
Moving onto next week I have Portly Pete for Moonstone, a cool Gorilla warrior, and a KDM miniature from echoes of death 4.
Natty was not too hard to paint. Not happy with the eyes so may at some time in the future re do them (I won’t but I can).
Kauffman is alright. May need to highlight his cloak further but apart from that he turned out decent.
Bone Eater. Just ignore the face as it is not a good job.
The champion of the goblin. I think I may need to bring up the green colour but it will do.
Gertrude. I swear my photos are getting worse
Week 2
At least my project has lasted longer than I thought it would.
Over the last week I have ‘completed’ 2 models but built 10 more. Unless my maths is wrong, that currently puts my at -8 after 2 weeks. Sigh.
The first completed model is Brunhilde from Moonstone. I have not yet decided on any basing as I am waiting until all the models painted and completed for a faction before basing.
The sole exception are the shades as I know what I am doing for those but I don’t plan on painting those any time soon.
The second model was the archer from KDM.
The final job isn’t one I am completely happy with but it will do.
The next two models I pick up to paint are Natty from Moonstone and the normal sized Bone Eater from KDM.
For the ‘Lloyd’ shot of the Bone Eater check out below the midriff for an unnecessary detail.
As a reward for booking a holiday with my girlfriend I bought something I actually wanted. The Yoroni one player starter set for Conquest
While I do not expect to play the game, at some point in the future I will get round to painting these and as they have the Japanese feel, it will hopefully encourage a different colour scheme.
For next week, the aim is to complete the 2 WIP miniatures and start a few more.
