About the Project

I have decided to help keep my motivation, to do a weekly update of what I have been doing. This will hopefully stave off the fatigue of the never ending pile of potential, and also reassure me that I am sort of making progress. The project will have a range of miniatures from different genres such as kingdom death monster, burrows and badgers, moonstone, marvel crisis protocol, Star Wars shatterpoint and everything in between. The last count was about 850 miniatures, that need to be painted. Normally they are then stored away but at least they will be completed.

May get a few duplicate posts as having issues with the project system.

Anyway, the last Blackstone fortress model has been completed along with 4 burrows and badgers minis.

The B&B do need to be based but as I have a few on my to do list, they will all be done at the same time for consistency.

First up, Blackstone fortress, the cigar kept breaking off so is no longer there.

Currently the site won’t let me upload images so I will come back and edit this later

Now the animals.

The first model is a repaint.  In the summer I had my then 7 year old niece stay, and she wanted to paint a model.  So I painted a couple along with her.  We used some Contrast paints and although I am happy for her model to stay as is, mine I wanted to repaint.  I also painted up a few similar models at the same time.

The original paint job

And the repaint.

Painted along a similar scheme are 2 more hare knights and a rabbit spearman

And the group shot – I did notice that I didn’t do the claws which I will go in and redo when the basing is sorted.

Update

I have re-acquired my work laptop so I have been able to update my spreadsheet to see how well I have been progressing.

So under 850 miniatures to paint isn’t too bad.

However, I do need to take into account that I will be getting the new season of blood bowl for Xmas and that is another 24 minis.

I am also likely to get the new Warhammer quest which is another 50 miniatures.

There is also a chance of some more miniatures for other things I paint.

Finally, I ‘may’ have increased my Kingdom death monster collection with their Black Friday sale.  So I may have added another 30 odd miniatures to the collection.

Taking all of  that on board, at the end of the year I may be back where I started.

Oh well

Another 2 completed

First UR – 025.

I was really looking forward to this mini but I got so bored painting it.  I think that I built it incorrectly didn’t help my mood.

so whilst it is not the best miniature I have ever painted, it is not the worst.  So it will do.

Then Amallyn Shadowguide.

The exact opposite with this one, I put off painting this one as I am not a fan of eldar, but it was actually quite enjoyable to paint.  I think you see the difference in the effort levels.  Although with my photographic skills it may be hard to tell.

And the completed heroes together.

Week 19 part 2

So just the one figure left and the painting will have been painted. And it was only 7 years since it was released.

After getting a mention by Gerry and Sundancer on their show this week, I managed to get 6 Blackstone fortress heroes completed which leaves 3 more.

First up are the halflings or whatever they are called in 40K.  Raus & Rein don’t know which is which.

I obviously painted these at the same time and as with all of the models,  I used the GW scheme as starter and then changed a few things here and there.

Then Pious Vorne

Then Thaddeus the purifier.

Next is Espern Locarno who was surprisingly easy to paint.

Last is Dahyak Ghrek.  For some reason I couldn’t get the face right, but it will do.

I normally post these on a Sunday, and I have a few hours tomorrow so hopefully will get some of the others complete.

After that, I need to decide what I am doing next week.  I may do some more Burrows and Badgers, build my Cursed City models, or do some Marvel Crisis Protocol.  Or maybe a mixture of the three ( or maybe none of the above).

  1. Three more done.

i hate painting space marines and that includes chaos space marines.  I started by trying to use the colour scheme from the game but disliked how it was turning out so went red rather than black.

i liked the red but then made a mistake but using a dark green as a counter colour, the marines look alright but I really don’t like how the Obsidius Mallex looks.  However, it is good enough and if I ever play the game, I can consider repainting it.

Week 18

A group shot of selected antagonists .

Week 18

Next up are the heroes.

I built one of them really badly and only noticed when I started getting them ready for painting.  Look at the gap between the arm and the cables.

I will try and green stuff some more cables to try and fix it but who knows what was thinking when I built this.

Week 18

But this does mean that there are only nine mini’s to complete and I will have finished another outstanding project.

My Blackstone Fortress ‘baddies’ are almost all complete.  Just the Chaos Space Marines to go, and then the ’heroes’.

So 14 Traitor Guards, 4 Beastmen, and 2 Rogue Physkers have all been completed.

Week 17
Week 17
Week 17

Then the Beastmen

And the Phsykers

Next up are the Chais Space Marines and the Champion.

Week 17

So by my calculations, that is over one hundred miniatures in the last 17 weeks or so. I think it is 105.

I do expect a slight slowing of my progression as after the space marines all of the remaining miniatures are singles, so will need to be painted individually.  I may spend a little bit more time and effort on them as well.

i currently don’t have access to to my spreadsheets on my work computer and can’t be bothered to recount all of the miniatures I ‘need’ to paint but at least that is a good dent.

With there only being 6 full weeks to the end of the year, my plan is to complete Blackstone Fortress in that time and hopefully a few others as well.

Due to other circumstances (work being shit) I haven’t been able to use painting as my normal cathartic mental cleanser, so haven’t completed as much as I had wanted in the last week.

However, I did get 4 of the cultists completed, and have made a decent start on 8 of the traitor guardsmen.

Week 16
Week 16

And the guard.

The first 8 just need some highlights and they will be about done.

Then 6 more to do.

This week I have finished one set of miniatures and made a start on the next part of my pile of potential.

I completed the remaining five goblins on the Black Orc team and the troll.  I can do better but as I am giving these away I didn’t want to spend too much time on them.

Details can be found on my blood bowl project.  However I have the full team below.  Next week I should be having a game and I will give them away then.

Week 15

I then decided to start in my blackstone fortress miniatures.  First up are the spindle drones.

The plan is for the repeated grunt miniatures to get them completed quickly, as they are just chaff.   So, initially I painted these a steel colour and then put a wash on, however they just came out as being boring.

So I repainted them black and white and took inspiration from the Citadel Colour app.

Week 15

Then the ur-ghuls.  I did keep these simple by using a few shades and then re-highlighting.

Week 15

So that is technically 14 miniatures in one week.  At that rate I should take me too long to get through my backlog.

I think the next models up are the Negavolt cultists.  I will then probably follow with the chaos guardsmen.

In think that is now 79 miniatures in 15 weeks, which I think is not too bad going.

However, as I still have well over 800 to go, let’s not get too excited.
