Of Epic Proportions (spring clean challenge 26)

What Regiment do I paint them as?

They have long coats so my thinking is either Steel Legion, Valhalans or even Death Corp of Kerig. Any help would be fantastic.

The normal Leman Russ tanks some how were more difficult to paint than the Demolisher but still far more fun than the Land Raiders. I think the newer models and metal made the casting have more detail which in turn made the model feel more complete more of a thing if you see what I mean.

I also tried to copy the tank markings I found in an old Guard Codex . The Red Skulls at this scale (and ability) look a touch japanese, but the white and the red add to the feel and contrast with the green. I also tried to do squad markings but that didn’t work due to the model design.

So I had a go at painting a plane. A thunderbolt to be precise.

And it went a lot better than I thought it would.

For the colour scheme I went through the Aeronautica book and decided to go for the Blue of the imperial navy as it seemed a nice scheme to copy and it was a fairly simple to do.

My thinking is to do two with a yellow tail fin and two with a red fin, but keeping to the overall same blue colour scheme

It was my father’s birthday the other day, so whilst I was round at my parents I went looking in the airing cupboard. I knew I had some Basilisks, so there must be some more Imperial Guard models somewhere. Turns out out I was wrong, there was a lot more than some.

In a plastic wallet, the most secure way of storaging models, I discovered 9 Basilisks, more leman Russ’s, rough riders, hyrdas, at least another infantry company. (there’s also a deathstrike missile launcher which I really should paint just cause)

 What I also found in an Altoids tin was some Imperial Areonautica

Now I love planes. My Great Grandfather was in the Royal flying Core and the RAF though both World Wars. I’ve cosplayed Pilots in local 40s days and been going to airshows since I was little. Now I know sod all about planes but I love them.

So another pledge, paint the planes to add to either or both imperial forces

Since it’s sunny and the little one likes trees, I’m in the garden.

And just like that, the Blood Angels are finished.

I’ve added another tactical company,

And a chaplain

So I’m happy to say I’ve got the 3rd company.

I’d like to add more. Bikes and Terminators to round it off properly but I’ll do that hopefully at a later date.

.The Leman Russ model was alot easier to paint than I originally thought. The slightly newer (20 years old) metal sculpt was more forgiving and easier to work with than I thought.

It still has an issue though. It has a slightly chalker look to it that is caused by the drybrushing and speed paints method. This seems to be fine with the infantry but on anything with flat panels just doesn’t work. I think with the rest of the guard I’m going to go back to the old fashioned methods.
