Unboxing The Germans – Rommel’s Afrika Korps

Justin & John sit down to talk about the kind of awesome kit you get inside the Afrika Korps set that the Boot Camp members are getting to play around with.

There is a LOT of stuff in here. It will be fun seeing how it's all coming together across the weekend.

God I’ve always loved the look of the PZ III. Much cooler to me than the PZ IV for some reason.

balthazaar

agreed, i think it looks better than the PZ IV

The minis look great, loving those 88s

cypher2009

That looks like quite the army. I hope Justin doesn’t revisit the Pikachu school of painting for this army…

dorthonion

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the minis – Battlefront have upped their ante a lot on those. The 10.5 cm leFH 18 was German, John, adopted in 1935. nothing to do with France at all.

tibour

WoW, who wouldn’t want to win this 🙂 I like that they have gone with a hardback book.

amachan

I still really love the look of the Panzer III’s over the Panzer IV’s. Don’t why, I just do.

galrian

That’s a nice force to start out with. I’m looking forward to seeing them built/painted and kicking butt !

jackie

love the germans ordering my books soon

eddie117

Got to love the panzer 3 , the workhorse of the German army 🙂

eddie117

Love the artwork on the army books looks great

eddie117

Can’t wait to pick up the new rulebook might have to start a mid war army

ethren

Love how these kits have so many options and yet they are marked in such a way that a person who is not a bolt counter can still identify them when building there army.

maddgame

Wow those look good. Could you tell me about the scale of the new plastic? Somehow the guncrew look bigger than previous FoW minis.

themumblingeagle

The DAK has and always will be my favourite wwii army.

troybuckle

Brought to you by the two happiest people at BOW boot camp right now (tanks, tanks and more tanks) Haha!!

m30wm1x

That’s a lot of tanks! Will be interesting to see what formations they will play them in, a wide front, cover hopping, spearhead?

grodd1016

Love the plastic tanks

dorthonion

Could someone stand over Dustin with a big stick, please? If he sprays the Afrika Korps yellow, hit him. It is acceptable in Dropfleet but an absolute no-no in historical gaming!

stkelly82

Good lookong kits. Should be a breeze to assemble!

battlehawk

Has inspired me to reread Panzer Commander, the memoirs of Colonel Hans Von Luck.

spacewolflord

That German Metal looks tempting.

gremlin

Superb minis, I’m going to have to start saving up, again.

pschwag

The model and type choices look excellent. I am hoping that the tank count will be similar between the German and British forces. Always hate the Allies get six tanks and the Axis get 2 tank mentality. I understand balance issues, but they then dictate what tactics you can use based on limited or overpowered numbers.

davidquinn77

OOOOOOOHHHHH I want those 88’s so bad

tonka73

Looks like a great set.

tonysilvey

Looking good. Last time I had anything to do with FoW the vehicles were resin and the Troops were metal.

wesadie1969

Very nice kits.

radegast6

is it because yellow color or detail is not that sharp on this plastic sprue?

stonewall

For some reason I was never a fan of the Pz III’s. But u have to say I think I’m a convert now! They look great

spartax10101

Those 88’s look really sweet full of nice little details to paint up.

eddie117

Here we go boys the big guns are out to play , can’t wait to see the DAKKA those 8,8s have 🙂

eddie117

I must admit I prefer the looks of the panzer 3 to the panzer 4

mark28

Really nice panzer 3 and 4 kits. Amazing job from the team getting the boards ready this week.

tomd

Seriously alot of stuff!!! to bad us at home cant get some kind of deal while the Bootcamps running.

jimsowter

Really like the Flames of War plastics. They go together so well and so easy, but look great on the tabletop. Need to make more time to paint mine.

Liking the look of the new rulebook, can’t wait to get my hands on one!

mwcannon

Did I miss something? I saw no decals in the British or German sets…

guillotine

Quite surprising if they didn’t include the decals…

wireme61

Love all that you get in the kits. Plastic look vey clean.

badgobo

Love this mini .

astralwraith

like the models, am wondering if we’re going to see an early/midwar version of tanks at some point

narwhalpanic

I am always suspicious of how well equipped forces in FoW are on the table. Alessio Cavatore said the reinforced platoon selector for Bolt Action is for a “very” well supplied platoon. I hope they make plastic 3.6 and 5 cm german anti tank guns. I feel like those were far more common than the 88. But the 88 is very cool and has lots of history.
If the 88s were as abundant as they are in FoW then maybe the war would have gone differently?

jodain

Nice looking kits there guys!

panzertanker64

Very nice guys have fun with the battles

wilco92

got to love an 88mm

cybermonkey

Nice. This is however my enemy, I would go desert rats!

anthony122

I’ve never tried mid-war because of the cost of buying most vehicles individually. This is enticing!

72draco

Would have loved to had those plastics when I started playing in 2nd edition, (10 years ago!) My Panzer IIIs for my DAK force were resin and metal.

72draco

I am curious how much mobility the 88s have since the starter doesn’t come with any transports.

lawnor

That is a lot of plastic!

ozzie

I think the Pak 38 was the most common DAK anti tank gun at this time, I think they
Should have transports for the 88’s too to give them more flexibility.

tchrin

I never thought that a historical set would grab my interest, but just looking at those sprues made me want to get my snippers out .

clappie

The Pz III does look awesome.

julianb

That is looking good, I like the plastic kits and at a quick glance it seems like these are super quality and will most probably be easy to put together.

fancybearzod

surprised to see the colored plastic, very nice kits & coverage.

moddleman10

torn over what i love more the 88s or the pz IIIs. (i’ll have to decide when i get my hands on them :P)

core8ball

Pre-ordered that box so I’m glad to see a close up look of whats coming. Thanks guys!

fireblarney

Nice looking kits.

ghent99

Time for the regular “what is that little thingy?”

warhound67

Sounds like I am where Warren was a few years ago. Never really played historicals, that may change in the near future !!!!

zorg

looks a good quality box.

barretem30

Nice looking little set.

dimdim

Wasn’t expecting tan plastic, but as long as it isnt resin and metal im impressed!

cwen

The models look excellent, just not sure on the colour of the plastic.

gideon7v20

These look like considerable forces to begin with. As always I am amazed at John’s knowledge of what is what on a tank. What does he read in his spare time – tank manuals?

minty45

John have you learned the German panzer song yet?

minty45

Much foot stomping

reichtangle

The panzer 3 just looks nice the panzer 4 just looks ugly. The only thing that makes the panzer 4 look nice if it has side skirts.

houghtonheed

Got the El Alamaein set on order dare say after this bootcamp I’ll be ordering a whole lot more.

bluetalon1974

It all looks so nice I cant wait to get my new rulebook

irontom

Wish the Germans had plastics infantry also.

kimstyles

Lots of nice options there 🙂

swbeil

I’m loving the Germans.

h20fowler

Cannot wait to put these together!

sircaroon15

This is a great. Love the many options for the tanks. This is most definitely my faction…..pick me, pick me !

basilbrush

In a word COOL

turbocooler

Quick question since I have not played FoW, while those spurs had variations on the look and equipment for the gun and tank, do they also play different? If yes, how would keep track of what is what?

milkshake

Holy cow that is a ton of kit. How many points of the new 100 point standard does this box come in at?

coachjose59

Panzer 3s look so cool! Can’t wait to see them in action.

dugthefug1644

Certainly looks like enough to get a good sized battle underway. I think I would still prefer the British, but these will take some beating. Do they make good infantry at this scale? Can’t wait to see Andy painting up some of these crews.

caibre

I’m looking forward to a Yellow Afrika Corps. 😀

rasmus

That is a lot of Panzers

lordbob

Nice sprues. I know next to nothing about tanks and historical battles, but these looks nice.

alyksandyr

I kinda wish the starter box had the 105’s in it too!

drum

Wow this figures are amazing. The v4 launch really has me excited. I played some v3 but never got around to a force for North Africa. This must now be rectified! Hopefully with a blog army win! 😉

kavallier

As awesome as they look im gonna have to say I’m more pumped for the Brits :D!!

duster

Great bundle.

I’m with you , i love the Panzer IV.

brewgeek

Real Purty

inu53

So much plastic, I feel an itch that may need scratching…

neal5x5

When Justin says “88s” I keep hearing “idiots”. Pretty funny.

greaper

I wondering if you guy have to ask the company to due Boot Camps or they just come to you.

andrewvonz

Panzer III, such a nice plastic kit. No more Resin/Metal, HUZZAH!

cbrenner

The artillery pieces look really great. Fantastic stuff.

alext

They are really good looking kits, and look fun to build too! The detail looks really sharp.

kristensen

They look fine, but I have Germans in latewar, so think Iam gonna build some british in midwar setting.

glitchingout

Like everyone else, think it looks good. Let us know how it goes together. Interested to know how tight the tooling is? Are there any troublesome pieces we need to worry about? Do certain sections of the model need to go together before others?

fjhamming

Those 88s have improved over the metal ones!

neves1789

Can’t wait to get mine! Still have some old resin and metal DAK too, hope they’ll mix well!

jwalker0405

looks great only ever played with open fire but I would love to get my hands on some of those pak 88s

warhammergrimace

German armour always looks good in any scale….

drbonejangles

There’s so much detail and modeling on these kits! It almost feels like 28mm scale.

sercoffee

Those 10.5cm guns are amazing, you’ll love them.

machinegod

Ohhh…all that plastic!

caledor2

Nice solid starter force and all plastic very nice..

coxjul

Is it just me, or do these look like a step up in quality?

marcusluis

looking good guys, if only they were in 20 mm …

mikeyboy403

I needed a good reason to get into FoW, and I think this is it.

ludovic

Nice kits they look, can’t wait to see how they build. The ones in the v3 starter box (at least the american one where shitty to align on the tracks). No magnets for the turets ?

weversberg

I look at all my metal 88’s and can’t help but wheep tears of joy at the plastics.

agashamirv

mmmm, plastic

levarius

love the artwork on the books

mo3355

Looking good

pojoh

Nice plastic

jarminiatures

I didn’t realise how much stuff the bootcampers were getting amazing amount of plastic

kr4ig

Nice looking kit. I prefer plastic plastic to metal or resin and these look pretty good.

bear23

These kits look absolutely fantastic. I hope they mesh well with the resin ones I have from days of old.

thehumungus

Kicking myself in the ass for not going!!!! Have fun everyone.

roboute73

A nice amount of kit. Those 105’s are German guns though, not French. Hopefully they will bring out some late war versions of them and the 88’s soon!

stoney997

Okay, almost certainly going to try and pick this up.

b1ackheart

That’s such a lovely box set

neaceul

Glad they are getting more plastics for FoW.

warwolf

Those look like some easy to put together kits. A big plus in my book and I like the plastic is coloured yellow for those who just want to get their armies on the table quickly.

wolf320f

The plastics are looking nice

anubis06

Love the “Unboxings” John and Justin do, so well done

helcarexe

The plastic tanks look slightly larger than the previous resin miniatures?

sherigon

Great Model

dammitprawn

Achtung! Schnell etc!

jabbaa

Looks great, what a pile of stuff!

zaknafein5

Love those tanks.

paulbarton

Very nice looking kits! I may have to give 4th Ed a try that thinner role book looks a lot less intimidating

lukeyboy

I love the font on the Afrika korps book

lukeyboy

so beautifully detailed really impressed

slatronic

the plastic kits look nice

bmad

just love the german tanks, i think they just look beter then the british

mbdeyes

I love the idea of gaming with these, but I honestly don’t know a thing about the different versions of these historically. Of course, a kit like this definitely get me started on that.

goatberger

Looking good. Nice force to get started with.

recon63

Was never really interested in FOW before hand, but this edition has me curious. I am quite liking the beginners German set. I’m tempted but still not quite sure. Don’t know how many players are in my local area

stingray075

The new plastic kits look very clean. I recently bought and got into Tanks and as the same company make the tanks I am really pleased with the quality of the plastics. Excited to get me some more tanky goodness.

svboel

Love the look on those Panzer IV! And ofcourse the 88!

panzerkaput

I do like the tanks with the different versions on them.

longshotte

Always thought the North Africa campaign was one of the most interesting of the war. It will be interesting to see how the two armies fare against each other under the new rule set.

leftonistvaan

Really like the look of the German figures.

volkbane

Great detail on the new panzers and the 8,8s are sick!

kernbanks

More 88s… need more 88s

outriderhobbies

So glad for the plastic minis they’re putting out. Less fragile in my opinion and more options than the old resin/metal.

It also doesn’t make my bag weigh a ton…

doomzombie

Great looking mini`s, will have to look into getting the Afrika Korps starter set and take it from there. First of i`ll look into getting the book`s, as i do like to have a good old read.

cheezfriend

Incredible box set, beautiful

jasonskee

I have a ridiculous amount of panzers and yet watching this I want more.

nashwyrd

Got so much of this sitting in boxes ready to play.

jamest123

88s – probably the finest weapon on that tble

spryte

I really like the format of the unboxings, first you see what you get in the box then you see the models assembled. You are also given any potential pitfalls you might encounter when you assemble then for yourself.

oriskany

At the end of the video, , you challenge to a game on camera. Don’t do it, man! Don’t do it! I fought John on camera and I’m still of prescription antidepressants from the hammering he gave me. He’s a monster with those Grants, Justin! A monster!
