    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.ontabletop.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • Conventions – one day is enough vs. a very long weekend. What do you prefer?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: finish the Fallout TV crew and maybe come up with an idea for this months PaintComp

Answer: I usually like events more that run more than one day.Mainly because you’re not limited to go on just that one day and then have a real stressful time running around. Also stands and shows are a bit bigger and brighter because it’s more convenient to set something up and have it standing for more then 24 hours

    Music: hot of the press

Pledge… carry on with MCP project which is going well for the moment. Just posted my latest update on the terrain pack painting process.

Only time I went to a conventions for more than one day was Gen Con UK back in 2004. It was at a Butlin’s camp in October and rained most of the time. First thing I did on arrival was leave the camp and go shopping for a sweatshirt as the entire convention was inside a tent and it was rather cold.

UK Games Expo I have been a regular visitor to, but I only go for one day as it’s mainly a spending spree for me. If I went for more than one day it would be cheaper for me to catch the train every day and commute, than it would be to book into a hotel.

And when you don’t have a car… having to drag your luggage around a convention hall on the last day you are booked into a hotel, in addition to all the gaming product purchased, would not be a pleasant experience

Pledge – Try and keep up the recent momentum, Orks Orks Orks. Likewise, PaintComp entry, I’ve missed 3 now 🙁 I get far too hung up on the theme and should just paint something regardless.

Of Conventions – I’ve never been to one, but I do like the walkaround content that some YouTubers put out always nice to see what’s new and on offer. Crowds and social interactions are not normally something I’m rushing towards, so I would probably be in the 1-day camp, a short but sweet approach. Looking forward to the OTT content on Salut! Hurrah

This week’s pledge is to photograph and upload images of my painting competition entry. Nothing else – it’s my first day in a new job Monday so I’m taking it easy.

    • Conventions – one day is enough vs. a very long weekend. What do you prefer?. I’ve only ever been to one-dayers. That seems enough for me, since all I usually do is walk around looking and buying. I don’t play any games. As soon as I did I could see that eating up much more time and a multi-day would be more appealing.

Pledge: paint comp entry “weird”, also more on project Nurgle https://www.ontabletop.com/project/1967419/?pupdated=true#snav

I did book a Mexico trip! Mexico City, Puebla for a football match (never been to one). Currently taking all my vaccinations for wonderful tropical and third world diseases – rabies, typhoid, hep a/b, E. coli, pneumonia, and I have a box of antibiotics in case now. It’s a whole thing…

Cons: always wanted to go to one of the big ones. I’ve been to Canada GW Games Day, it was fun, also ran a mini-con back when I had a club. Salute someday; I like the idea of a two-day event. Only done one day events other than tournaments which are usually two days.

Pledge: Get some basing done on the SCC Regiments of Renown that I’ve already painted. Then paint the next one.

Conventions:  I’ve only ever been to the 1 day sort. Wargames conventions in the UK are usually just for the day. I was at Salute today. Met Gerry and Shay which was good. I’m not a fan of crowds so just did a couple of hours running round to pick up some goodies and then we left. I’d have liked to look at the painting competition entries but the queue was silly. Games were hard to see with the crowds but there were some lovely looking tables. I’ll check them out in the videos later.
Free model of Saladin and a set of KoW sprues from Mantic.

That’s the haul. The pre-coloured Roman villa from Warbases. A set of Sand rules and legally distinct figures. Some Foundry sets for Warriiors of Athena. Some old Grenadier Dark Elves and some paint and basing stuff for SCC. Oh and the new Midgard campaign book.

    Sand looks interesting

@zoidpinhead is there a link or something for the SAND rules? Looking online doesn’t help and Skulforge has no links to it.

The company doing the rules and STLs are Crow Industries. They have a Patreon and do several other games including a mech game in addition to Sand.
The Skullforge Studios site has lots of stuff and you want the Oasis Imperium for the Sand miniatures.
Sand is a micro skirmish game intended for 5 vs 5 model count.

    So Sand is Dune?

@grantinvanman Yes. I think they are as legally distinct as they need to be. I’ve never understood why we haven’t had an official license for miniatures for either movie franchise, either the Villeneuve or Lynch versions. You’d think there would be a market for it and it is very war and combat focussed as a narrative so plenty to go at.
If anyone knows where I can get 28mm  minis or STLs for the Lynch version characters I’d be getting those as well.

Other than the 3D print side, @zoidpinhead these are what I think of as Dune from when I read it in the 1980s. Before Sting ruined the franchise. And, he hid. The WORST.

Taking a wild guess here but: money! Either the owners charge too much to make it a viable product or they simply don’t care and don’t want. I mean besides books and movies have there been cartoons, spin offs or even toys?

    Before Sting ruined the franchise

I liked it. But I knew that version of the books as film way before I even knew a) it’s based on a book series and b) they missed things. My current Dune journey so far was: Sticker album of the Sting, Dune – the Sting version, Books, “what could have been dune” with H.R. Giger art and Salvatore Dali as emperor (IIRC) and then Dune, the new movie.

That’s a wild way to get into Dune, @sundancer ! My father’s friends were mega-nerds, all military, air traffic controllers who were engineers that couldn’t get jobs for whatever reason. They used to tell him about books they read, and then I would go find them at the second hand book shop. It was a neat time.

Ninth Winter is here. It can f*ck all the way off. 13 days from today I will be in Mexico City.

@zoidpinhead     I like those miniatures from Oasis.   I’m tempted to snag some…………well, the whole lot that is!

@sundancer   I too liked the “Sting” version as well.  I did read the books……… well, two of them, but still enjoyed the movie.  I guess I was just starved for SciFi visuals at the time.  Having grown up on a diet of SciFi “B” movies, a major motion picture event was good enough for me!
