Spellcrow’s New Miniatures & Details On Fantasy Game, Wartar
August 19, 2026 by brennon
Spellcrow has been dropping more teasers and previews of their upcoming Fantasy wargame, Wartar, which looks to be landing in early 2027. We got a couple more miniature previews recently, starting with the impressive Black Knight.
Black Knight // Wartar
The Black Knight is one of the commanders of the Sheol-morg forces that come in the new boxed set for Wartar. The miniature looks brilliant and captures that evil vibe perfectly. It also has a bit of that Spellcrow magic in there that always comes through in their sculpting. There's a certain character to the sculpts that sets them apart from a lot of other Fantasy ranges out there, drawing on their own lore that they've built up for their ranges.
But what about the game itself? Well, it's going to be a rank-and-file game but in 28/32mm scale compared to the 10mm scale that you're probably aware of with Argatoria. Heroes will sit apart from units in Wartar, giving support to them on the battlefield but also being able to fight independently against other heroes, units or beasts that they might want to face down.
Peasants // Wartar
Another cool detail about the game it that whilst it's a rank-and-file game, it's not going to be a massive one in terms of the miniatures that you need to play. For example, the Starter Box that Spellcrow has planned comes with three hero miniatures, two units of six miniatures each and one additional individual figure. That's just sixteen miniatures to get you started.

Armies can expand, of course, but Spellcrow reckon that a normal army will be around thirty to sixty miniatures. All of the miniatures for Wartar are also being designed as single-piece figures so you won't have to assemble anything when you crack it out of the box (well, apart from sticking miniatures on bases).
The initial Wartar Starter Box will come with two armies. The previously mentioned Sheol-morg army is one side and on the other you will have the Barbarians. The Barbarians can be painted to suit one of three different gods: Dirandis, Vaendral or Gaeldor. Each has distinct warpaint colours which should be fun to see represented on the tabletop.

The Sheol-morg army is also divided into three distinct types. Your choice of lord dictates what you lead into battle. The Lord of the Abyss commands fallen humans whilst the Lord Necromancer commands the undead. You also have the Lord of Sheol-morg, who can command an army of beasts.
As mentioned earlier, Wartar is still in development and will be released in 2027 but until then we'll have plenty more miniature previews and deep dives into the rules as they come together.
Has Spellcrow's Wartar piqued your interest?
