Pre-orders for the new Warhammer 40,000 Ork Codex will go live this weekend, alongside a host of new miniatures to support your rampaging hordes as they spill across the battlefield in a mass of metal, dakka, and revving of engines.

Codex Orks - Warhammer 40K NEW

Codex: Orks // Warhammer 40,000

The starting point for a new Ork army comes in the form of the new codex, which includes all of the new rules for 11th Edition Warhammer 40,000, along with all sorts of new lore and artwork to inspire you as you start a new army. Key to that will be the fifteen new detachments that you'll find within its pages, giving you lots of ways to personalise your army. You'll also find expanded Waaagh! rules and all of the datasheets for over fifty units that make up the Ork army.

Codex Orks - Collector's Edition - Warhammer 40K NEW

Codex: Orks - Collector's Edition // Warhammer 40,000

If you'd prefer to get yourself a nice Collector's Edition of the codex, it will be available in hardback rather than softback, which will be the standard for this edition of Warhammer 40,000. This version of the codex is available whilst stocks last.

Both codex variants are the same and unlock your rules in the Warhammer 40,000 App. Games Workshop has also mentioned that the Codex unlocks an "ongoing subscription to regular rules updates, additional detachments, new lore, and advanced hobby guides that will be added to the app". Rules updates were always a thing but the additional detachments, lore and guides might make it worth getting the codex this edition.

New Ork "Heroes"

As well as the new codex, you'll also be able to pick up new plastic miniatures representing a selection of heroes that can lead your Orks into battle. The new Nazdreg might be a good way to go if you're looking to build a themed army.

Nazdreg - Warhammer 40K

Nazdreg // Warhammer 40,000

The Bad Moons' warlord has plenty of brute strength to lead his clan but he's also backed up by powerful technology and a cunning mind able to make use of it. He wields the fearsome Moonchewa' Power Klaw and the Kustom Blasta X, which is effectively three weapons in one.

If you'd prefer to tell your own story, you can also pick up the customisable new Ork Warboss.

Ork Warboss #1 - Warhammer 40K

Ork Warboss #2 - Warhammer 40K

We saw images of this fellow quite a while ago but he's now available for you to scoop up and add to your own bespoke clan of Orks. He can be armed with various weapons like a kustom choppa or power klaw but he can also rock a kustom shooter, kobi-rokkit or a kombi-skorcha.

The miniature also comes with a range of options to personalise your Warboss, like attack squigs, boss pole toppers and various heads that can be mixed and matched with several jaws. I still think that the proportions of the new Orks are a little strange but I think the new Warboss miniature is growing on me, especially with the power klaw variant.

The battlefield is a dangerous place and that means a lot of your vehicles are going to get blown to kingdom come. Thankfully, there is a new Ork Mek on hand to help with that.

Ork Mek - Warhammer 40K

Ork Mek // Warhammer 40,000

They are experts in battlefield engineering and will be very helpful when supporting your Dreads and other vehicles as they storm across the battlefield, spewing forth fumes and plenty of dakka. He's a seemingly small but important part of your Ork army if you're looking to run a lot of vehicles.

New Ork Troops & Vehicles

Ork collectors can also get their hands on a new set of infantry and vehicles to help build their new army.

New Ork Boyz - Warhammer 40K

New Ork Boyz // Warhammer 40,000

The new Ork Boyz all come with a shoota, slugga and choppa as standard now and that's represented on the miniatures. This set of miniatures also allows you to arm three of your Boyz with a big shoota, rokkit launcha and a burna; weapons that weren't available to the Ork Boyz in the initial Armageddon launch box. The Nob also gets to play with his power klaw so you can get to krumpin' some humies even more easily.

The Ork Warbikers that were previewed in full last week are also going to be part of this launch selection for the Orks.

Ready for close combat and ranged engagements, these Orks come with plenty of dakka in the form of their rapid-fire dakka-guns but with additional options for a kombi-rokkit on the leader. I can see Speed Freeks players picking up quite a lot of these.

The same likely goes for the Orks' new and upgraded Trukk.

Ork Trukk - Warhammer 40K

Ork Trukk // Warhammer 40,000

Whilst it would be funny to see your Boyz slog across the battlefield on foot, it might be more tactically sound to get them into the back of a Trukk. This set updates the older Trukk kit with new klaws, buzzsaws and options for a big spiked ram on the front. You will also find a lot of different components that can be used to personalise your Trukk to suit your clan and the driver.

Ork Accessories

In addition to the new Ork miniatures, you can also get some accessories to help with leading your Orks on the tabletop.

Command Pack - Orks - Warhammer 40K

Command Pack - Orks // Warhammer 40,000

The Command Pack is different from a standard set of cards from past editions. It contains ninety-four reference cards that cover the fifteen detachments that make up the Ork army in 11th Edition, plus more on their rules, enhancements and strategems. You'll also get thirty-six double-sided tokens which can be used to track various status effects in-game.

Die-hard Ork fans can also get a set of new dice to use with their 11th Edition army.

Ork Dice - Warhammer 40K

A bunch of the original miniatures from the Armageddon launch box will also get solo releases. The Big Mek Dakkarig, Weirdboy, Wartrakk, Bannernob, Bigboss, and Painboy (with his little grot orderly) will all become available.

Could this tempt you to dive in and start collecting Orks for 11th Edition Warhammer 40,000?
