Decide The Fate Of Samarik! New Kings Of War Summer Campaign

Mantic Games announced their big new Summer Campaign for lovers of their Fantasy wargame, Kings of War. The Siege of Samarik will run from Friday 14th August to Sunday 30th August and across several different games, you'll decide the fate of this corner of Pannithor.

Throughout the rest of August, your games of Kings of War, Kings of War: Champions, and Armada will help Mantic work out whether Samarik stands or falls. The outcome of this campaign will then become part of the ongoing narrative and evolving history of Pannithor.

Here's some of the lore behind this campaign...

"South of the Samarite Mountains stands the Basilean city of Samarik: a vital stronghold close to the defensive lines that have held back the forces of the Abyss for generations. Now those defences are under pressure. A major Abyssal host has forced its way through the mountains and descended upon the city. While Samarik’s garrison fights to hold its walls and streets, Basilean reinforcements and Salamander allies are being drawn into an increasingly desperate battle.

Basilea will need its most powerful heroes if Samarik is to survive. Basilea faces the threat, divided by a growing crisis of faith, as the Xirkaali invasion threatens the Salamanders’ own lands far to the east. Every force committed to Samarik cannot fight somewhere else, but the Abyssal assault cannot be ignored. The fate of the city could reshape alliances and affect conflicts far beyond its walls."

As you might have guessed, there are two sides that you can join when it comes to this campaign. You can either fight to defend Samarik, preventing the city from falling into the hands of the enemy. You could also side with the attackers and hope Samarik falls. In the official story, the Basileans, Salamanders and Forces of Nature are battling against the Forces of the Abyss and the Orcs but there's no reason why you can't break with convention when it comes to who your army fights for.

"Perhaps your Forces of the Abyss army supports Samarik Stands because its Archfiend despises the Lord of Lies and wants his invasion to fail. Perhaps your Dwarfs are stopping a Ratkin warband from sabotaging a Basilean supply route, or your Northern Alliance fleet is intercepting weapons bound for the besiegers."

As mentioned above, you can play games of Kings of War, Kings of War: Champions and Armada. All standard games count BUT you can also make use of the FREE Beta Siege Rules if you'd like to get into the action around Samarik.

The beta rules come from Mike Smith and Chris Smither with work-in-progress rules for fortifications, garrisoned units, destructible walls, castle gates, siege equipment and five scenarios.

• Part Two: The Final Struggle -Monday 24th August–Sunday 30th August
