Gen Con 2017 Live Blog: Day Two!
DGS Games Talk Freeblades – WIN A Starter Set Of Your Choice
DGS Games talked with us about the world of Freeblades which is a Fantasy world that you NEED to check out.
With that in mind we talk about how the game plays AND give you the chance to win a Starter Set of your choice from their world.

Okay this one is straight up my alley. Looks gorgeous and awesome!
The minis look great but there is still no audio.
Really sorry dude – we thought we had this fixed. Try listening on a PC or tablet and you should have sound.
Really really nice.
Another great looking game.
Never heard of this one before, looks quite interesting!
Great minis!!
nice idea, to have the blade flat for you to make it your own
Miniatures look amazing!
I still need to discover this one
could we see a lets play for this
Agreed. The game seems interesting, and would love to see more about it from the BoW posse. I love the concept of moving characters between RPG/Skirmish/Battle games. Sounds like a balancing nightmare, but if they get it right would be incredible.
It has great concepts, it would be good to see those in play
Lovely game!
I’ve been lucky enough to meet Jon a couple of times and he is a really nice guy.
I’ve kept my eye on this and the sculpts are getting better and better.
Hope I can win so I can hope to start Freeblades games in my local area. The co-op version would be tremendous.
Minis look great!
I love the eclipse models. Great female sculpts.
I hope more will come
Show us a demo game Ben.
These sculpts are really good – damn all this excellent variety of games and not enough money.
Another game to add to my watch list, those models look great
Nice minis and the game system sounds good.
Sound really interesting.
It sounds like skirmish Dungeons and Dragons with less RPG and more combat. Interesting that they are adding the RPG back in.
I love all of these games. I think this little game could be quite big with some love
The guys riding those dinos and the demon figures, yes please. Off to take a closer look at this range.
Yep, great range 🙂
Really needs to get out into the world. So wish it was available in Canada. The game deserves more love, glad BoW is covering it.
Nice details
I would like to get in this game… hopefully i win
I feel like this game gets very little press, and yet it always has peeked my interest. I sadly don’t know of anyone playing in my city right now…:(
Oh my goodness – I didn’t give this game a decent look – it is totally my style being more character / RPG style. Like the campaign capability and the different faction styles, the experience balancing mechanic seems a good idea. Thanks to John for describing the game and system well.
@brennon brought up a great point about this filling the gap if you’re not getting your D&D fix – that would be awesome! Those are lovely looking miniatures and having just got into Bushido, this may be the next thing to try in the future.
Great looking miniatures, not seen this before.
Also not seen this before – will be finding out more about this, since it sounds right up my alley.
Great loking minis. I do like the concept of being able to use the same models figures/characters over several game systems
A few of those factions took my fancy probably have to come down to play style
Nice looking minis and more campaign based play is fun idea. Going to keep an eye out for this.
Very cool, its stuff like this that would slip by me without BoW
I really like the “base building” element to the campaign system, and now that the factions have fleshed out a bit, there is definitely something here to appeal to me.. and hopefully my kids, too!
Haha, the campaign system I was thinking of was for a totally different game, but the faction thing is true. I have a half dozen freeblades minis that I use for different games and until now they have all been drawn from different factions. The Eclipse Sisterhood, however, are a faction I could own in it’s entirety and in that scenario, what’s to stop me playing the actual game? 😉
Gorgeous models, very detailed. Women adventurers looks fantastic
Sounds likes game to try out
I will be checking this game out. Love the idea of moving between game types. Hope it scales well.
Does ‘all the starter sets’ count as 1 choice?
This sounds like a great game to pull out when the a player or two drops from your D&D game. You’ll still have a good mini’s battle night.
Game looks amazing! hope I win!
Just had a look at these guys website – some of the models are really nice. Hadn’t come across them before.
Great interview and thanks for the close ups on the minis, they really are very cool!
Hey! I know that guy! He taught me the game!
You had me at fantasy skirmish adventure! Minis hava great flavour, and the concept sounds great! There is a fantasy shaped hole in my life and I think this will fill it! Also loving the variety of monsters!
It is a really nice system with varied dice sizes and each die can explode ad infinitum.
First time I’ve heard of this one. Sounds like a good little system. The minis are fantastic!
Interesting interview, if I didn’t have so many other things on the go I’d be tempted to give this a try.
First time I have come across this looks interesting will have to find out more, and if there are any “lets plays”
How have I missed these? Models look great but the system sounds fascinating. Need to see a demo.
very nice indeed,great looking minis
Definitely would be interested in seeing a play through of this. A little hard to conceptualise from the description but it does sound cool!
Great little run down of the game, this game is definitely one thats turned my head previously but i dont really know much about it. Maybe a lets play in the future will help
Looks like an interesting game.
A good morning. These look like some nice sculpts and what he says nice to see a game that isn’t just bash each others skulls in, there is a story driven arc to this. will have to look out for this in the UK.
Another game to add to my list
Hard to get in Europe
Nice game. Hard to get in Europe
This seems like a really cool and interesting mix of skirmish and RPGs… I’d be very keen to see BoW play through if at all possible.
Very interesting game with great minis
I really liked what he had to say about the game. Is there anyway you guys could record the booth demos at some of these places to look at later? I know you are trying to cover lots of ground and the it might require more time to edit(maybe you upload them as raw footage). Maybe you put up a poll of some of the different games being demoed there and then take the results and maybe record demos of the highest rated from the poll late in the weekend?
I like the concept of the game that is a bit more like a role play game and elements of that in the missions. Really awesome looking minis and I like the idea that they can be used in different ways with different accessories. Having gameplay affect the characters abilities is also an interesting feature of the game. Sounds good, I might have to look at this game to add to my collection……
Extra bits are always good, especially snazzy hats
Interesting idea, great models
Nice looking miniatures & like the idea of moving a character in & out of different games
I unknow that minis and im un love, where can i found that un eu stores? Any one knows?
those minis look fantastic
This is a fascinating sounding game. I’m going to have to seek this out.
Great interview Ben. Game looks great.
Some pretty minis there!
Freeblades was always something that sounded fun but I have not gotten anyone else to jump in with me. Maybe one day.
a How to Play by BoW might help this
I love games with a handicap system, that is why i loved Necromunda (show war Armageddon sort of lacks in this aspect). And to be able to move them into armies and such is a really cool Idea. Thanks for this one.
I need to look into this one. Campaign systems are one of my favorite features in any game.
This looks awesome! Loving the idea that it’s more of a roleplay setting with mission objectives. Look forward to hearing more about it
like the look of the new faction eciple
great mini`s
These minis look absolute beautiful!
Miniatures look great. Sounds like an interesting game. Would like to see a demo to see how it plays.
Great figures!
Freeblades is a VERY fun game to play! I just started playing a couple months ago after getting into the Eclipse faction’s KS. The gameplay is quick and smooth, rewarding good tactics while punishing stupid. The tiered dice system is an interesting mechanic that really comes into its own in campaign play. Definitely a game to get stuck into.
Sweet Starter sets
Never heard of these guys, thanks for sharing, looks like a very good alternative to frostgrave, this seems more grownup feel to it.
Im in! Im gonna make a couple of different battlefields for this game…I mean when they are so small I’ll make one forest, a town and some ice terrain to play with on my kitchen table for my friend and me.
Campaign system sounds great.
Have watched the how to play videos and definitely eager to try out Freeblade real soon. Love the dynamics and intimate nature of combat here.
Think I’d heard of this… but certainly didn’t know anything about it. Looks great!
The guy with the grappling hook is awesome! Also like the rpg group thing vs a military game (do love my games of Frostgrave too)
I’ve never heard of them , but it looks great!
Coop skirmish game? Sounds interesting!
I’ve never heard of Freeblades , looks really interesting though. I do really like the idea of a skirmish / rpg . The sculpts with the little extras in the packs are a great idea , and look really well executed .
I’ve got the rulebook and I can say Freeblades is really cool. You forgot to mention they have a exploding dice system, however the dice go up in scale:
d4 –> d6 –> d8 …. all the way to d30
I’ve not heard of them before but I do like the sound of their objective based “battles”. I might have to check them out.
This looks very very good. And with a co-op potential that becomes even more interesting.
I’ve somehow missed Freeblades. The multi level approach of the RPG, Skirmish and Battle games along with the handicap in the campaign system sound really interesting.
Nicely painted minis!
Never heard of this till today looks promising!
Hmm, seems like a solid system. Might need to keep an eye on this one.
I’ve been going to DGS for a lot of my Frostgrave minis. Great to see they are developing their own game
which one did i need
Never heard of Freeblades before, but it looks very fun and I definitely want to give it a go!
How the heck did I not know about this? Want.
interesting models an so do they have rules to download so will I soon look for game play.
where do I get the time play all these wonerfull games
looks great!
New one to me but looks and sounds great. Can we get some more coverage of it in the future?
I don’t need more games but I always need more models and the models look really nice.
Which starter set to get if I get really lucky. I’m not sure.
I’m thinking the Black Rose Bandits would be my go-to, just based on the minis. They look great!
I like it!
love the fact they give option for their models.
Freeblades is a great game that scratches the RPG and war game itches at the same time. The models also keep getting better and better. The campaign system really stands out.
As far as Learn To Plays, I’m not aware of any but Jon (the lead designer in video) will Skype to help you learn the game. The DGS Games Facebook page is a good way to get ahold of them. So is the Freeblades Players group on Facebook.
This is a new game to me, seems like a really interesting world and system.
Conversion rules are always a nice addition.
this game looks really interesting. Ill have to look up more details.
Never heard of this game before. What kind of dice system does it use? It reminded me a little of Frostgrave when he talked about leveling up and being rewarded after each game.
Beautiful figures. But a catch up factor??
Looks awesome!
Looks like a fun game.
Great coverage!
Nice to see more highlights of this game!
Wow those Haradelan Questers look so good. I love the female apprentice knight! Not only does the game look great, but the models are awesome and could be used for so many other things. Love it
That’s very nice
Co-op minis game? Great idea.
This was a cool show
Freeblades is cool!
I love the concept of the game, it’s something really fresh and new
Freeblades looks epic!
This looks lovely!
All new stuff to me.
These look great!
Never heard of this game before…..Whoah! Are those dino-riders? Awesome!
Never heard about these guys before. Great looking minis.
I love the look of the models ! hope to win a prize
Great sculpts for this game! Not very familiar with it. Liking some of the 32mm games releasing just now.
Liking the divergence from the military vibe of most games. Inventive.
Also liking the inclusion factor for new players. Always a trick to try to bring new players into an existing campaign.
Very curious and interested in this one!
True, looks like they know what they are doing 🙂
I don’t know anything about this game (totally slipped past me). Will be keeping my eye out in future.
Love me some small scale skirmish. Will have to look into this.
This is so cool!
This one looks interesting, I would like to see a demo.
Supercool!
This was lovely!
Color me interested!
never heard of them before going to check them out i love it
This has a lot of potential and I’m going to take a close look at this.
Starters make teh best prizes… hint, hint…
Looks nice. Loved Ben’s little squeal of excitement on the announcement of the bard
I think I saw this at another convention, looks great.
I like the flexibility of playing skirmish or multiplayer or cooperative and the rpg could be a great addition
It’s a great choice
Ahh too many cool looking games. Need more money/ time.
The miniatures for this game looked great but I couldn’t get in a demo game.
Great looking game
The human models look nice, but those beasts are just fantastic
awesome minis!
